I have been prescribed adderall XR for my ADD since I was in 5th grade , was prescribed through my pediatrician after going through tons of test took about 2 years to get the right medication ! I graduated in 2014 and stopped taking my adderall and after 2 years I couldn't deal with not having it anymore so I went to my new doctor and he agreed since he knew I was pre prescribed it for years , so for 4 months now I've been on Adderall XR 20mg once daily and Wellbutrin 250mg twice daily and the Wellbutrin gives me horrible headaches and makes my Adderall not have very good effect for my ADD. I told my doctor about this and he kinda ignored it I also want to but am afraid to tell him I just cant continue to pay $ 100+ For the XRs anymore and I've seen that the IRs for Adderall are much more affordable, how should I go about telling him and or asking to be switched ?

I think you should be honest with him and tell him you can't afford it, but you can afford the IRs. He shouldn't have a problem with that. I've run into issues with medication affordability in the past and have gone back to my doctor and asked for something different if it's going to be out of my price range.
My only concern is regrading the addictive potential since XRs are extended release - what your about to switch to may have a completely different effect as they will be hitting you all at once and may be more habit forming. I was on Indural (propranolol) XR for anxiety and got switch to the regulars because my doctor thought it would hit quicker. I'm shy, and would take an Indural sometimes before dance or golf if it was going to be crowded. Big mistake. The regulars work too well, and I accidentally sedated myself and was tired the whole time. I can no longer use it as a cheat for social anxiety lol.

Thumbs up on this one! You have to speak up, especially since the medications you're currently on don't achieve the effect that they should give you and you have an adverse reaction on using Wellbutrin. Hope everything goes well with your GP and would love to hear how everything goes! Good luck!

Yeah, if you can't afford it, what can your doctor do about it? He has no choice but to switch you if he wants you to stay on medication.
I have had the same problem with meds with say cheap generic IR's being more affordable then name brand SR's or certain brands being covered while others of the same drug where not for some reason. Be honest with your doctor about both the fact you can't afford your Adderall and the bad reaction you are having with the Wellbutrin and you should be able to work something out.

The fact he ignored you is a good indicator that you should find another dr. You are a consumer of his services. You vote with your money, and I highly suggest if you decide to stay with this one, to bring up the fact he ignored you. Your health should be the most important thing to you.
