Tried to give the gist of it all in the title. But today, I got pulled over for an innocuous vehicle registration expiration. My car smelt of weed and the officer asked I had been smoking marijuana or if there was any in the car (no I was not under the influence, but yes there was). After the typical split second denial, I admitted that I had it, gave everything to the officer, and hopped out of the car thinking that cooperation was the best shot I had if there was ever going to be a glimmer of hope from this encounter. But at the same time, I was a total wreck because I went to college in Virginia and got a possession of marijuana charge there my freshman year. I was told back then, even after successfully completing a pretrial diversion program for a prior marijuana possession charge, that there were no second chances the second time around, and that next poss. of marijuana charge would result in a felony. I was considering running out into traffic at that point and ending it all momentarily because I thought this was the end. I have worked my ass off in school, went to a very good college for both undergrad and graduate school worked my tits off there, and have had some decent white-collar jobs since then. But I'm currently unemployed, and this shit could mess everything up.

Reading the above, you all probably are thinking that I am screwed and there's nothing that can be done. The backup cop showed up later though while the other cop, was searching my car to see if anything else was in there. I was telling her everything that went down, and how I'd thrown my life away, how I'd destroyed any chances I had at reaching my career goals, yada, yada, yada. But this cop told me "You're job searching and you don't want this on your record, now there's something you might be able to do to help remove that charge, if you're willing to tell us where you got it."

She told me to go back into the car, and think about it, and come back if I agree. I went back and thought about it, and while I may be a lesser man because of it, I told them I agree to help. They said somebody (an independent agent) would be getting in touch with me about next steps.

The original cop who pulled me over however said he still had to issue my summons to court for Possession Of Marijuana and paraphernalia. And he said I would have to show up for court, but the extent to which I am able to help them before then may change things/help my cause.

My question here is: Have any of you been in this situation where you could NARC your way out of a weed charge? If you've been able to NARC your way out of being charged for posssession of a more heavily-prosecuted substance? Are the cops messing with me, and will helping them help me at all you think? I cannot really trust what they say, but I don't have any other hope. I'd rather not shell out for lawyer, and I do not want anybody to know about this if there is still a way for me to NARC my way out of this and escape it from ever tainting my record.

I realize a real man would accept responsibility for his actions. If that "real man" acted like a "real man" in my situation, he would end up cooking fries at McDonalds for the remainder of his life (if he got the job). If that's my future, then it is not a future worth living for.

So I plan on NARC'ing unfortunately, and if I cannot pull if off then I face the music. I am guessing I would need to assist them multiple times before expecting any concessions on their end, and while that'd suck, if it is my only choice then I will do it.

So again, have any of you ever been in a similar situation and were you able to positively or negatively resolve the issue?

-Many Many Thanks for any input you all have from your own experiences or second-hand. I sincerely appreciate it. I will have a lot of difficulty sleeping tonight.

Cool name and welcome to bluelight.

legal discussion is against the rules here.

^This. We can't offer you legal advice. You need to discuss this with an experienced lawyer. They'll be able to give you a much better answer than we could.

Also, it is a bad idea to discuss an open legal/court case on an Internet forum. Especially one that is read by law enforcement. I'm going to close this thread. Please read the posting rules and Bluelight User Agreement (BLUA).
