Alcohol Advice on stopping drinking (about 4 500 ml cans, 5% beer a night)

I have been drinking 3 to 4 500 ml cans of 5% beer a night and on Saturday i usually have 5 cans; I've been doing this for several years.

I don't take any other drugs.

I really want to quit now.

If I quit beer cold turkey will I likely go through withdrawal? I really want to just quit without tapering but I don't want to put roadblocks in my way.

I was thinking of drinking 3 cans for 4 days and then 2 cans for 2 days and then stopping. But maybe it will easier to stop cold turkey.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your biggest issue is likely going to be the fact that this has become completely habitual. For a lot of people, a drink after work in front of the TV is their "safe space".

It is possible you will experience some minor anxiety, perhaps like having a little too much caffeine.

You should try to replace this habit with something else. For instance, have you ever tried Kava? I know a lot of people who have used that in place of Alcohol. It is low risk.

If you have any symptoms, they will likely pass in a 3 days at most.

You won't go through any wd but you will feel there is something missing from your life . If you can get to sleep you will feel like a new person in the morning
In my long experience tapering just dosnt work ,once you take 1 drink you will reach for another .tapering may be suitable for someone who drinks 24 cans a day, night or a bottle of vodka or more but for what little you are drinking its best just to stop.

phone or make an appointment with your doctor and explain you don't want to go thru the faf of cbt and the 6 week waiting list [or maybe say you will just to get a prescription]and they should prescribe you a z drug sleeping pill ,they won't prescribe any benzodiazpines as you won't need them nor do you want them.z drugs are horrible but they will knock you out for a good 6 hours until you can get a decent sleep pattern without them .
You will get all the usual stuff about exercising etc which obviously does help but motivation will be a major factor

I drink triple that on weekends and managed to abstain for 3 or four days without any ill effects
If you think of some of your offshore workers they drink like a fish but are able to go without for 3 weeks
