Opioids Advice Needed On Hydrocodone Detox

Hello everyone. I am fixing to start trying to quit taking hydrocodone. I have been taking them everyday for about 2 or three years. I was up to 16 to 20 Lorcet 10's a day, but I am now down to eight to 14 max a day for the last week or so. How long should the DT's last, and what should I expect.

As someone who was also addicted to hydrocodone way back when at around the same dosage as you, let me tell you if you have never experienced withdrawal before it is not going to be pleasant. I would either recommend titrating your dosage down even further (say 4-6 per day) if you want to try the cold turkey route. Let me tell you though this is not the best way for a successful kick of opiates.

I highly recommend seeking out Bupenorphine (Suboxone or Subutex) from an addiction doctor or an outpatient/inpatient detox clinic. For me, the first time I tried to kick hydrocodone I did it with Subutex (but as an outpatient) and it did not take. Truly quitting opiates for me took an inpatient detox and a few weeks of rehab/support meetings.

Cold turkey is a surefire way towards relapse in my opinion, especially if you have no experience with it. With your usage amount you could be looking at anywhere from 4-7 days of significant withdrawal symptoms (cold sweats, hot flashes, muscle aches, stomach problerms). If you have no experience with these you might find it a task to big to tackle without support and/or Bupe.

I recommend searching for both the BUPE megathread and the Withdrawal/Detox thread. There is some terrific suggestions and advice on how to proceed and what over the counter medicines you could stock up on to help beat the demon that is opiate addiction.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have further questions...

Were/Are you doing Cold Water Extractions on those pills? If you are not, then let us know and we'll link you to the threads on how to do them. The amount of tylenol in those doses will harm your liver.

Continue tapering down, probably to 1/2 pill a day, and then alternate days on and off of the hydrocodone. After a few days of alternating, you can either stop there or go every 3 days a few times. If you think you are close to the peak of withdrawals on day 3 though, I wouldn't bother taking another pill since it will prolong things more.

FYI, DTs stand for "delirium tremens" which occur with alcohol withdrawals. I'm sure you meant "detox," but I just wanted to clarify that.

in my experience, a big help in opi detox is realizing that all the post acute withdrawal (days 7-30ish) mental problems are normal and not for any reason other than lacking opiates in the brain
ie. im depressed and feel like the future is fucked and totally anxious
tell urself its BC of the WD and itll get better, theres a light at the end of the tunnel!!!

also definitely look up bluelight's thread on an opiate addicts detox kit; immodium, benzos and clonidine if ur doc will prescribe em for the WD [clonidine for sweats, hi BP and anxiety, benzos for sleep and anxiety, just be careful u benzo detox is worse than opiate detox]
also id have some benadryl around, diphenhydramine, for sleep. anti histamines r very helpful w this, just dont take anythin over 150-200 mg or u may start tripping, and it aint pleasant in detox.
naproxen oTc is great for body aches. weed helps the boredom if u smoke. kratom may b useful for the worst of times. be immodium is a godsend for the physical shit [lol] stops u from processin food inside of an hour.
