Advice for Ayahuasca after a bad prior experience with LSD?

I made a post about a week ago about a really bad trip I had with LSD a few months ago that might have caused me to develop some PTSD symptoms. It was my first time doing a hallucinogen.

What I didn't mention there was that I did LSD again about 2 weeks after that experience, and I had a much better time. The only thing that made me slightly nervous during the trip was when we were watching a visualizer and the same images kept coming up, so it reminded me of the thought loop. But otherwise, I was having a good time and laughing my ass off most of the night. Needless to say, this time around I am going to cut out the visualizer. Most likely going to stick with movies and music. It seemed like my emotions really took over me last time, and whatever I was watching or hearing had an enormous impact on my emotions and how I was feeling. So I was thinking about listening to some Enya or other calming music to get me in a good mood for the trip. Any recommendations?

Also, any advice in general? I'm probably going to take a relatively low dosage of ayahuasca for my first time. I will also have some benzos handy just in case something goes wrong. But I think I'll be fine this time around. I just did WAY too much my first time.

You have a total of two trip experiences under your belt, one of which sounds like a complete train wreck, and now you're considering taking aya, arguably the most intense psychedelic known to man? It doesn't have to go badly, but what you're doing is akin to learning how to swim by jumping off a cliff into the ocean. I would get my ass in the shallow end and start learning how to float.

Actually, it's pharmahuasca. Sorry about that. Not sure if it's any different. Is it really that intense? Even if I take a small dosage?

No. If you take a low amount, it shouldn't be that crazy, but I still don't think it's the right psychedelic for a new user. If you have access to them, I'd suggest low-dose mushrooms or low-dose 2C-E. In my experience, those are both likely to be fun and valuable at a dose that is still prettying forgiving.

if im correct, ayahuasca is supposed to cleanse the spirit by causing forceful puking. users report visualizing spirits of animals such as jaguars and snakes accompanied with psychosis and delusions. i dont know about you, but this doesn't seem that fun to me....

Edit: ok i guess you edited your information because it isn't correct...unless...unless...it 'twas god??

I haven't taken ayahuasca yet, but I've read a lot about it. Basically, your experience with LSD will give you pretty much no indication of what it's like. It would be much like having smoked pot for a bit, then thinking you have an idea what LSD is like. It's a whole other level.

However, this doesn't mean don't do it. It just means that I think you're best off approaching it like you're completely new to hallucinogens and the psychedelic experience.

Here's something to keep in mind: a lot of people take ayahuasca as their first-ever mind-altering substance over in Peru or wherever else they have healing medicinal ceremonies. They tend to report that it's terrifying and a very difficult experience, but worth it. So newcomers, even those not otherwise interested in psychedelics, can indeed often handle ayahuasca.

It's also worth mentioning that, unlike LSD or magic mushrooms, ayahuasca only has about three bad trip reports on Erowid. Bad trips, per se, are very uncommon and usually result from taking too much, whereas you plan on starting with a low dose. At the same time, there will be completely overwhelming periods where you'll feel like you're dying, like you've lost your mind, like the fabric of your identity is being irrevocably dissected. You will spend at least the first three hours throwing up. It is not a recreational experience by any means. Aya / pharmahuasca is only for those who seek self-development out of substance use.

You might want to consider smoking DMT before taking ayahuasca. Though more intense, it only lasts for maybe ten minutes. With ayahuasca, you're in for an eight hour ride. DMT is of course an ingredient in aya / pharmahuasca. I don't recommend playing around with mushrooms even at low doses to prepare you, because if LSD screwed you over, mushrooms have about double the chance of doing it again - and they won't prepare you for this. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would argue they're only rewarding because they have highly experienced shamans to put their experience into context, if you had a bad pharmahuasca trip in your lounge room or whatever with no previous hallucinogen experience other than the LSD ones you describe, and no one around to put it into context you might just do your brain in for good. By that same token you might not, but I know I wouldn't risk it.
The things I've heard about from Amazon jungle experiences seem to heavily outweigh the intensity of DMT. DMT is a flash of these otherworldly realms if you want to call them that, Ayahuasca takes you on detailed journeys through them.

Yes, these experiences can be incredibly enlightening but only if you think you can handle things like snakes jumping into your body and eating your organs from the inside out, or a thorned vine tearing your naked body to shreds, and stripping you of your humanity, of course this may not happen to you but it very well may, because before you can really learn from Ayahuasca it's my understanding you are purged physically, mentally and spiritually and sometimes the sacred vine is very unforgiving in this process. Take your bad trip on acid, amplify it by a number with many zeroes and you might be able to get an idea of what this might be like.

I personally advise against taking any pharmhuasca. Even if you take a low dose and don't find the experience too overwhelming I believe there will come a day you wished you had waited. It's one of those things you just should be as prepared as possible for and experience it fully, but that's just my opinion.

Yeah TangerinO, I've also wondered if the shamanic setting for ayahuasca plays a role in the positive experiences. I take it you haven't done ayahuasca yourself either? It's not easy to come by the ingredients in Australia.

Why do you recommend against pharmahuasca?
