Advertising is everywhere. Can you imagine how many ads are shoved into our a minds on a daily basis?
only if you watch commercial media
watch "the greatest movie ever sold" for an interesting to see city (i forget which) which has banned all outdoor advertisements, like billboards.
People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you. You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity. Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.
Banksy, Street Artist.
Its impossible to avoid it. Were using the Internet which is filled with ads!
ad blocker, no script, pop up stopper, i never see any ads online.
eat smacky smores
I saw a statistic about five years ago that stated Americans (I don't know about Aussies and other countries) see 3000+ ads every day. It might be even more now.
I work in a grocery store. Fortunately, I know enough to read, feel my own response and walk away.
The way to avoid most ads in a day is to stand clear of the things that we normally see them: big grocery store chains, television and popular sites. I thank Bluelight every day for having minimal to no ads.
It's rare that I watch television. I don't even know half of the commercials my friends start talking about ("hey, did you see that commercial where the guy took off his shirt and he had a pair of lips on his stomach?!" ... "um... I guess I have now.")
I'm glad I'm starting to prefer a lifestyle that's relatively low-technology. dailyzen, bluelight, questionablecontent and email for the Internet and Jersey Shore and Survivor for television. No smart phones, no apps, no facebook, no twitter... It can be a bit detrimental while searching for a job, but someone's gonna be okay with hiring me and will be very satisfied with the choice.
Make choices that you can be proud to make.
