I've been feeling very weak, drowsy, and having problems with concentration for quite a while. All symptoms gradually worsen. If I get up at 5:30 AM, I'm usually very tired at 3 PM and I'm falling asleep involuntarily.
I suffer from hypothyroidism so the first tests to run were levels of TSH, fT3, fT4, and aTPO (thyroperoxidase antibodies). Everything was done using the isotopic method, everything is in tact. An endocrinologist I used to go to (as a part of my National Health Fund insurance, it's NFZ in Poland, equivalent of English NHS), saw just bad levels of TSH and so I've been treated with levothyroxine since March 2010, saw nothing wrong in other tests results... All symptoms showed up after I came back from England. It was too long for me to wait so I got a private coverage and went to an endocrinologist privately. The physician noticed that thyroid gland was very small ("it's more of a female thyroid in terms of its dimensions") and my cortisol level was low (it was a bit lower than the norm nonetheless he stated it was definitely too low as for me).
Well, I wanted me to do a lot of tests, not all are covered even by my private insurance so I don't have all of them done. However, so far I know that:
- my sodium level is perfectly correct
- my potassium level is low but in tact, these two rule out adrenal insufficiency in theory...
- no anaemia
- eosinocytes, % of all white blood cells twice as it should be (8%)
- neutrocytes, quite low level of (I compared this with my previous blood tests results and there's a decreasing tendency)
- glucosis, quite low level of (77.10 mg/dl, it's almost a threshold)
I still need to get my cortisol and ACTH levels tested at 7-8 AM and 3-4 PM. However, there are as many Addison's disease symptoms as there are of quite a lot of other diseases. Anyway, I tend to be very sleepy and angry at the same time, I can be sleepy and tired but my heart can be racing. So I'm not sure right now what I should expect. One thing I know is that something bad is happening and my immunological system may be in bad shape...
I went to a specialist in internal medicine to see if she sees anything from these tests or sees any need to do some other tests, or sees any need to check up with some other specialist. But as she heard I suffer from hypothyroidism she told me to do all the remaining tests and go to my endocrinologist. Also, she told me to go for walks to breathe more fresh air and drink more liquids because my blood pressure is low (100/60), blablabla, well, sure, it means the cardiac output is less so there's less "new" oxygen in my blood circulating. I've always had low blood pressure, besides I must take methadone and clonazepam and they both certainly add to it...
It may not be Addison's disease but still it may be some adrenal autoimmune problem. As I think of it now, I wonder how much my use of opioids screwed up my adrenal glands. I was afraid of taking hydrocortisone or prednisolone and carrying ampoules of hydrocortisone and some mineralocorticoid so I can give myself a shot. Now I'm afraid I've got some tumour(s) on adrenal gland(s) and that's the real reason why it all happens.
Any thoughts? I know nothing will show the true problem better than tests. But I wonder more and more as so many symptoms of adrenal insufficiency are ruled out. Thanks in advance.
I didn't really see taking
