so more recently (the past few months) i have been noticing a large number of ads for rehab/detox centers and programs geared towards treating physical and psychological addictions of all types. it seems like these ads are becoming more and more widespread and are increasing in frequency. there also seem to be a lot more competitors in the field addiction treatment field.... has anyone else noticed this? and if you have, would you say that means that addiction is becoming more and more commonplace and therefore heading towards greater public acceptance/less public bias and stigma?

still not quite sure if its just me noticing the ads more or if this is actually happening on a larger scale...

I guess these rehab signs are going up in towns with recognised drug problems and that you are seeing more and more signs and adverts as these companies compete for rehab cash.

I actually noticed this myself. suddenly drug treatment centers are everywhere i think its because of tv shows like intervention and rehab and stuff like that.

I heard someone say that addiction treatment is one of the largest money makers in America, which definately would make sense. I believe that there is probably less stigma attached to drug addiction than there was in the past (where even the medical community thought of it as more of a moral failing/weakness than a disease or disorder), but on the whole, I don't think there will ever be a whole lot of love and compassion for drug addicts.

I think that this recent commercial about opioid addiction is excellent (although the website doesn't really teach you much), and shows some progress in regards to stigma. The people in the commercial don't look like stereotypical addicts, so I think that some people may realize that a lot of addicts are functioning, normal members of society (at least they were for a while), and anybody can become addicted so there should be less judgement towards addicts.

Other than that commercial, I haven't noticed an increase in ads. There seems to be an increase in the number of "Suboxone Doctors" though. I just checked on suboxone.com and there are over 40 of them within a 10 mile radius of me. I'm in some dense suburbs but even so, that's a lot of doctors that can prescribe suboxone in the area.

Ive noticed a large increase in advertising I know the maker of suboxone has a new ad campaign out www.turntohelp.com. Ive also been seeing a crap ton of banner ads for withdrawal aids and kratom even on non drug sites. I think opiate addiction number are spiking right now and there is an increase in competition for peoples rehab dollars as the economy continues to sputter.

^ Ahh, I was wondering why that site (which is the same one I was referring to in my above post) had linked me to the suboxone website before. Also I just saw that the bottom of the page says:
