and I can't escape it's wrath. IDK what else to do. I always have gabapentin but I can never take it right. I'm coming to the conclusion that since I have given up I might as well just keep abusing it.

What brand of gabapentin are you using, yes it kinda matters in this case and also what dose are you on? How are you getting it? How did ur addiction start and what was it initially used for? If your doctor is prescribing it for u I would just tell him or her u want out and they will make sure u do it properly as suddenly stopping this med could be dangerous.. if not from your Dr then I honestly might go see a Dr about it to get assistance. Either way, don't give up and stay hopeful. I'm sure a bunch of people here can relate to ur specific situation better than I can but I'm here to remind you that no drug in the world is impossible to stop. Regardless if it's gabapentin or heroin, you CAN overcome ur addiction just stay positive and make conscious decisions to take ur next steps in the right direction. U don't have to do it all in one day, I highly recommend real med help but if not an option you WILL find the right support here. Carry on sonic it's never ever too late to end any addiction. Stay positive!

Gabapentin is extremely addictive for some individuals, though I've never been hooked (probably cause I don't have a constant supply). If your seriously looking to kick it, a slow taper would be beneficial, as withdrawal can be dangerous.

Your tolerance is getting jacked up from using so much. This is one of those meds than can lose it's magic quickly. I would stick with the amount as prescribed so you don't end up in a withdrawal situation. You didn't say how long you've been taking gabapentin?

I tried the stuff for neuropathic pain following several surgeries, I've been deeply addicted to benzos in the past and had problems with alcohol and other substances so was a little concerned.

Maybe I was fortunate as I really didnt get on with it at all it made me feel quite ill effecting my cognition and vision so I ceased and didnt feel in anyway compelled to take any more, however having been there with Benzos and drink I can relate to this type of habit and the issues with getting off such substances.

You dont mention why you are prescribed them ? I moved onto Amiltriptyline for a while, it's hard to say how effective it was but it was at least non habit forming.

As I understand it long term use needs to be dealt with in much the same way as alcohol of Benzos, tapering or a switch (under medical supervision) to an alternative substance and then a taper, the length and format of the taper depends on the length of time you have been using and at what level. I would advise at the very least making your own structured taper schedule, have a read through some of Dr Heather Ashton's Work, the schedules for Benzo withdrawal will give you some idea of the type of schedule required.

Ideally you will take this up with your doctor but I know that that isnt always easy. The good news is that using the taper method it is possible to beat even the biggest Gaba drug habit with the minimum of discomfort and more importantly avoiding the life threatening risks associated with suddenly ceasing use from long term use.
