I'm currently taking 30mg Adderall XR most days for my ADHD, and it does wonders for me as a college student studying biochemistry. I normally take it ~5 days per week (sometimes 3-4, depending on necessity). However, it becomes an "unpleasant grind" after several days of continuous use, due to the diminished effects of taking it so often.
Second semester is currently underway, and I feel significantly less motivated/stimulated than I did last semester. Even while on my meds, it requires a lot more conscious effort to stay focused, on-task, and motivated than it did when I first got prescribed at the beginning of last semester. Although the medication IS still effective and still does something for my ADHD, it is no longer the "miracle" that it used to be (in terms of focusing and getting shit done). I try to take tolerance breaks as often as possible (weekends where I don't have tests the following week, breaks and holidays, etc.). Below are the vitamins/supplements I take daily. Feel free to suggest alterations or additions to my daily supplement stack.
Daily vitamin/mineral/supplement cocktail:
-300mg chelated magnesium
-30mg DXM (is this enough for tolerance prevention purposes?)
-2000mg Fish Oil (2 softgels)
-2000 IU vitamin D3
-One-a-Day Men's Multivitamin/Multimineral Supplement
What are some ways that will allow me to get the most out of my medication as a college student? Should I tweak my supplement/vitamin regimen? Should I talk to my psychiatrist about increasing the dose?
I don't want to become one of those ADHD patients taking 60mg+ of the stuff per day just for it to be effective, and ideally do not want to take more than 30mg on any given day. Once I'm done with college, I will not be using my medication as frequently, but while in college it's pretty much a necessity, so I want to get the most out of it.
Suggestions/advice?
