WARNING: THIS IS A LONG POST. SORRY. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CONTINUE READING...
The Adderall dose I am taking (10mg, 3x a day) works great... But the side effects are lousy (headache, bad shoulder tension, fidgetiness, "cracky'-feeling, and hard anxiety when drug kicks in), making me feel like i'm "on drugs" but with none of the euphoria... and this badly undermines the drug's positive effects for me. I just want to feel good, and NORMAL, but kind of jacked and focussed... Should I just exercise and meditate more and stick to espressos? Forget prescription drugs altogether? But that's what I was doing before and it wasn't enough! I really hoped Adderall would be the miracle drug, but it's creeping me out (while also working...?). There HAS to be a version of this medication that doesn't have as many crappy, tension-filled, heart-beaty side effects... So... my question to the forum is this: Can I take a low dose of Ambien 5mg AT THE SAME TIME AS I TAKE THE ADDERALL 10mg? (I am already prescribed the Ambien 10mg to take at night). I just want to use some of it while I'm on the Adderall to counteract some of the side-effects, while leaving the clarity and motivation... and it does... it works really well... I feel focused, generally mellow and happy, but I want to get shit done! Most importantly, it feels comfortable. I should also say, I've built a tolerance to Ambien, so I don't experience any of the trippiness or crazy shit; just very light, comfortable, sense of well-being. Should I not be doing this? Is this bad? Isn't the idea for those of us with ADHD to be focused WITHOUT the shitty side effects? (Or do the side effects serve a purpose?) Or... should I be experimenting with Klonopin (which I have never tried)?

Generally, is Klonopin a better choice over Ambien for counterbalancing side effects while not diminishing the positive effects of the Adderall? If I switched to Klonopin, what are the dangers and fears there? And what is the effectiveness of that drug combo versus Adderall and Ambien? Just to be clear, while I do like mild euphoria (i.e. happy feelings), I am strictly trying to figure out a combo that will let me go to work and work hard like a human being, but where I can still interact with the real world... drive busy streets... go home to my family and be nice, etc. This is not for recreational use, at all. Right now, straight Adderall is kind of tweaking me out. I'm getting some work done, but it's freaking me out... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know the problem you are experiencing and if you would like to PM me I can tell you more about the subject. Basically, in my opinion, there are two different reasons to choose Klonopin to take instead of Ambien (hate it btw). The first reason is that the Klonopin does not interact in a negative way with Adderall . The second, and most important is that Klonopin is MADE 100% for Anxiety, Ambien IS NOT, it only helps you sleep. Klonopin, however has been proven to work for both sleep and anxiety disorders. If you are experiencing anxiety, you may need something for it, and Klonopin is great. Compared to others like Xanax, Klonopin is more mellow and longer lasting (And the Adderall is long lasting too so it will take away the headaches and back aches that I definitely get from Adderall.) Hope this helps, PM for me info I'm in a hurry sorry!

Ask your doctor. How long have you been taking Adderall? Right now you sound like you want to mix uppers and downers so they will basically offset themselves and you will end up increasing your tolerance for both which is worse. Have you thought about trying a different stimulant for your ADHD?

I haven't read that yet, I'm trying to catch up on some posts/play black ops.

I took some suboxone, klonopin, and adderall just recently and am feeling fan fucking wonderful!

Also, could you try to break it into smaller paragraphs. Yours wasn't as bad as some walls of texts, but it could be better, just trying to help :)

im prescribed kpins. try a few .5s with 10mg adderall and work from there. ive tried it and it works very well for me. it takes me to a relaxed state where i can still function and focus just fine.

wow I must've been born to answer this question... three of my favorite drugs... and those combos too...

ANSWER: Yes Klonopin and Adderall "generally" seem to go nice and smooth together for most people who do give it a try. Most docs are hesitant to RX an "upper" with a "downer" ... but the whole "crossing signals" idea is mostly bogus. They work together , in concert, on different parts of the brain. and this combo would do exactly what you are seeking

as far as ambien and adderall goes... this is more fun for sure.. but would not be fun all the time. you would be really high and euphoric.

I've taken six times dosages of both those you described. but ya go for it .. start with a reasonable amount of either.

I'd try and get switched to Dexedrine instead of Adderall because it doesn't have many side effects at therapeutic doses, at least not compared to adderall. Dex is much much smoother and could possibly solve your problem.

I think Klonopin is a superior drug especially if you're on an amphetamine, Klonopin is going to work better but you don't want a Klonopin habit unless you really need it for anxiety.

Ambien is easier to quit than Klonopin, I love Ambien but it doesn't always work and you will probably reach a point where it doesn't work anymore for sleeping.

So I'd switch to Dex, if you like Adds better than stick with them. If you're going to be on them longterm and don't have an anxiety disorder you might want to try something like Trazadone or just stick to your Ambien.

Of course really just discuss this stuff with your doctor.

First of all, I'd decide which stimulant I prefer and run with it. Then address the issue of any ensuing anxiety accordingly.

Do you have an actual anxiety disorder of any sort or is this anxiety an unadulterated result of the stimulant usage? It's difficult to answer your question without knowing all the details. It's tricky. There's always the possibility of cross tolerance. Based on your report I don't think you have (for instance) a cross tolerance problem with alcohol and benzos because you're clearly feeling the effects of the Klonopin. As I'm sure you know, Ambien is a non-benzo but works at the same area of the brain. Both are hypnotics, but if anxiety is your problem then Klonopin would be the drug of choice as Ambien is mainly used for treating insomnia and a medley of other disorders.

Personally, I hate Ambien. It stops working quickly for me and has many unwanted side effects. It's also very unpredictable, bringing about different effects from person to person. As for Klonopin (or any other benzo for that matter), it doesn't really do it for me either because of my cross tolerance with alcohol. So what to do? There are other options.

Are you familiar with Pregabalin? It's a CNS depressant designed to be a more potent version of Gabapentin (Neurontin). But unlike Neurontin, it's definitively indicated for, among other things, the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder.

From wiki: Its therapeutic effect appears after 1 week of use and is similar in effectiveness to lorazepam, alprazolam and venlafaxine but pregabalin has demonstrated superiority by producing more consistent therapeutic effects for psychic and somatic anxiety symptoms. Long-term trials have shown continued effectiveness without the development of tolerance and additionally unlike benzodiazepines it does not disrupt sleep architecture and produces less severe cognitive and psychomotor impairment; it also has a low potential for abuse and dependence and may be preferred over the benzodiazepines for these reasons.

If you look it up, you'll read that it also seriously potentiates the effects of other CNS depressants like benzos, barbiturates, alcohol. I think (but remember everyone is different!) that if I were you, I'd take my preferred stimulant first, feel the desirable and useful effects for a few hours, and then take some Pregabalin along with just a little bit of Klonopin. This approach would not only be synergistic, it would allow you to get safer anxiolytic effects from a much lower dose of the benzo with the help of a much less habit-forming anxiolytic. Or you could just try the Pregabalin alone. You could probably take the depressant right along with the stimulant, but I'd wait a while. Take the lowest doses possible. And I'd stay away from the Ambien; it's a funky drug. It might be great for a while, but the benefits won't last, and you might end up in a mess over it.

If the somatic symptoms of the anxiety are really pissing you off, try a beta blocker like propranolol, perhaps (but Pregabalin has proven to be very therapeutic with regard to somatic problems). But, as has been wisely said, it's best to discuss the possibilities/concerns with your doctor.

lyrica is the shit with adderall as welll.

not as good as ambien tho

ambien taken WITH adderall makes you feeel invincible.

I have the same problem, I take dexedrine to remedy my problems with drowsiness and inability to focus and it remedies those problems but the side effects are counter productive. I should mention that the best remedy for these side effects I've found so far is green tea. It gets rid of the headaches and general feeling like crap that the dexedrine induces from time to time. Alcohol seems to work too but I got a hiatal hernia from drinking whiskey out of the bottle while I was on MDMA a few years ago and since that day I rarely drink while on stimulants or any other drugs that suppress its effects. I've never tried GHB but it sounds like a wonder drug and considering it has a high affinity for GABA receptors (like alcohol) I think it will provide all the same synergy that alcohol does and probably more seeing as it has more similarities to benzos than alcohol. I have never tried taking zolpidem while on dexedrine, I'm gonna give it a shot.

Like you I also hoped that dexedrine would be some kind of wonder drug. Although it may be for some people, it isn't for me because it induces too many side effects. I can't overemphasize how much green tea helps alleviate these though. Something I'm looking into at the moment as a potential substitute for amphetamines is provigil. It is a stimulant that increases ones ability to focus and rids drowsiness but doesn't have the side effects associated with amphetamines. For example you're able to sleep if you need to and it doesn't overstimulate the PNS. I don't think I get anxiety even on amphetamines so I don't have anything to say about that besides the fact my brother takes propranolol for it. I've read conflicting things about using beta blockers while on amphetamines so I'm reluctant to experiment with the combo. Also I've never tried adderall but from what I've read, l-amphetamine has more negative side effects (such as inducing hypertension, tachycardia and anxiety) than the d isomer so if you can get your hands on dexedrine (adderall is racemic amphetamine, dexedrine is just the d isomer) I recommend trying it to see if it has less side effects. Anyhow you started this thread 6 months ago, have you found any new solutions to these problems since then?
