Stimulants Adderall Tolerance Help!?

Can someone please tell me how I can get my tolerance to adderall down? I am not abusing it at all. I started taking it a year ago 60mg a day (30 mg ritalin in between the adderall doses to boost it all) As of very recently it seems like im just tolerant and its not working as well. If I don't take it for a period will this tolerance go away and the adderall be effective again?

I have dexedrine that I was prescribed to have in storage in case I could not get my adderall prescription filled (it is unbelievably limited supply where i live and every month its a guessing game as to whether i'll be able to get it)

If I take dexedrine instead of adderall for a week will that change anything for my tolerance? If not, if i just double my ritalin dosage for a week, will that change anything?

Please let me know what I can do to help this situation. This medication is extremely effective for me and my every day functioning. I consider it a miracle, as my ADHD produced symptoms that made leaving my home even difficult. thanks so much for your help!

Good that you aren't abusing it.

Instead of asking a message board or changing between backup scripts on your own, at least ask your doctor first. He may have to adjust your dosage.

To some extent, yes. The fact that you are using two strong psychostimulants that share a common mode of action doesn't help - it would be best if you stuck with one or the other when it comes to methylphenidate/amphetamine.

Other things you can do to help reduce tolerance: exercise more, increase intake of dark & colored greens/vegetables/fruits (plant based nutrient sources), reduce your dosage to the minimal effective level, make sure to get enough sleep, and taking one XR formulation of drug, early in the day, instead of two or more doses of IR.

There are also some supplements people claim to help reduce the development of tolerance before it becomes a problem, e.g. DXM, curcumin, and a few others.. check ADD, there's a thread on this.

No, and no. Adderall and Dexedrine are essentially the same drug. (Adderall has 25% of the "less stimulating" isomer) Ritalin produces similar effects in the synapse to Adderall, as far as tolerance is concerned (increased norepinephrine/dopamine levels in synapse causes desensitization of the receptors they bind to, and negative feedback by autoreceptors - your brain's natural "volume control"). You could switch onto caffeine for a few weeks though.

The only way you are going to realistically reduce your tolerance any amount is reduce how often you take prescription stimulant ADD meds. (and other NDRI/NDRA drugs)

What a GREAT response!! Thank you so much!!! I am looking around for an answer to this: Does Apple Cider Vinegar have ANY negative impact (or any at all) with Adderall or medications? I just started drinking ACV for my health and i just wanted to make sure it wasnt just making my body get rid of any medications that are supposed to be doing their thing. Let me know if you know! thanks!
