Hello!! This is my first thread on this website although, I am not new to the forum. I have read threads on here a few days a week for about the last year and a half. Here is my problem. I began taking Adderall about a year ago and only used it maybe twice a week at most for school related things. I would take one 25mg xr and be great the whole day. Well after a few weeks I began taking it every other day and after about a month one capsule wasn't doing much for me. At that point I took two instead of my normal dose of just one and did not feel anything. I decided to go on a tolerance break and I took about 3 months off of Adderall. I then returned and tried once again taking just one 25mg xr and still did not feel anything, maybe even a little sleepy. so following that experience I began trying that same dose of one capsule but with variations to my diet, things I tried include: Taking it on an empty stomach, Full stomach, taking tums in the time leading up to dosing, and cutting out acidic foods completely. None of it worked so I decided that the best option was to take a longer tolerance break. I've taken a break all the way up to today. I purchased a few 25mg xr Adderall and took one with only a mcdonalds mcchicken in my stomach at approximately 4:30 pm. Even after two hours of waiting and not eating or drinking anything i felt barely anything. Even now at 11pm when I should be feeling effects, all I feel is a tiny difference in my alertness but nothing even remotely comparable to my first month taking it. I am lost as to why this is happening and what i could do to fix it. it is not like i have been a heavy user, never taken more than 50mg xr. My question is what do you guys recommend i try and also what could be the cause of this? should I just accept the fact that one isn't gonna work anymore and I need to take more to feel it, say 3 or 4? any advice would be appreciated

I can relate to your frustrations with Adderall. I've experienced what you're going through, but on higher dose and tolerance.

First of all, it seems that you are taking it orally, correct? Also, you are taking XR's? Those are 2 things working against you not feeling much euphoric effects. I haven't done any in 10 years, so I don't know if they even prescribe non-extended release pills anymore. Have you ever considered or tried insufflation (snorting) of non-extended release pills?

Secondly, from my personal experiences, I believe with Adderall there comes a point in time where you hit a brick wall regarding euphoria. In my opinion, it has to do with the racemic mixture of amphetamines. I prefer dextroamphetamine to straight amphetamine. Both are in Adderall. However, Dexedrine contains only dextroamphetamine and was always a better euphoria for me. During my ride with prescription amphetamines, I found that Dexedrine was always consistent. Whereas, with Adderall, after 90mg I would hit a brick wall and no matter how much more I took, I couldn't feel it anymore.

I should mention that I started on Adderall and eventually switched to Dexedrine based on what was available to me. In the beginning, I experienced the same effects as you. It was great! Over time, that honeymoon phase vanished with Adderall. Although, with Dexedrine the euphoria remained for the most part, Adderall didn't do anything for me anymore.

Your honeymoon phase is most likely over. Unless you increase your dose, use non-extended release pills, and choose a different route of administration, it's over. I'm not trying to preach, but perhaps consider not taking it for a high. It's very destructive and not worth it. Take it to study, etc.

Also, you mentioned it makes you tired sometimes. That used to happen to me too. Maybe you have ADD? I often wondered if I did because of that.

At any rate...good luck!
