Adderall/Dexedrine and Social Anxiety

I don't really know where this thread belongs, but I've noticed that amphetamines have a tendency to produce generalized anxiety (which I normally don't have). The social anxiety I experience on amphetamines, however, is pretty much through the roof. I mean, it's not unbearable ALL the time, but when it hits hard I just want to curl up in a ball and make the whole world go away. I'm also prescribed benzodiazepines, but unless I go over my prescribed dose (which is already pretty high), they don't counter the nasty effect of the amphetamines. Does anyone else experience social anxiety on adderall/dexedrine?

i have social anxiety and adderall sometimes makes my anxiety worse. dexedrine is good. id go with lyrica or some benzo too

For some people amphetamines fix their social anxiety, since some of it may be attributed to adhd symptoms such as failing to pick up on social cues or facial features, and by resolving that you resolve anxiety itself. Others suffer from (social) anxiety when taking amphetamines since they're anxiogenic substances, more often than not for those who don't have adhd.

It's really normal.

^this good post chrom

amphetamine cause anxiety to those who dont have ADD/ADHD. i have ADHD, and pure dextroamphetamine (vyvanse/dexedrine) doesnt cause anxiety and helps with social anxiety, it still might case a little anxiety with it though. it helps SO much with my ADD/ADHD impulsivity and helps with my OCD tendencies related to ADHD and inability to focus perfectly. i still get high from addy and dexamp though.

what meant to say in my earlier post try to get switched to dexedrine or vyvanse, and ask your doc for gabapentin or lyrica. if you want, you could ask for one of the weakest benzos, but you dont want to fuck around with benzos man, trust me. go with clorazepate (Odesmethyldiazepam), chlordiazepoxide, and oxazepam; these three benzos are the least addictive, least sedatve, and cause the least physical dependancy while still providing anxiety relief effectively due to their unique pharmaocology.

^^^Dude, I already take a shit ton of Klonopin and switched to Dexedrine. It's weird, because when I first started taking Adderall, it really helped my social anxiety. I could actually concentrate on what people were saying, now it's like the opposite. There's always a voice screaming in my head, telling me how much I'm screwing things up. Before taking stimulants, I used to be sort of oblivious to social cues, but now they're blown way out of proportion; I'm hyper conscious which makes the anxiety worse.

Then your options are a dosage adjustment or switching back to adderall.

If you really want a better tool for social anxiety from stimulants, take laCster's advice and try lyrica (pregabalin) or (gabapentin). Nothing synergizes better with stimulants IMO. Unlike benzodiazepines it doesn't kill the amphetamines effects, but rather attenuates the negative ones, and amplifies the positive ones IME.
