In the past a friend of mine enjoyed this experience and discovered by accident. Taking prescribed doses and noticed it took a turn for the better. He has noticed that it doesnt work everytime. He has went months inbetween trying this again and it has one worked one time since then. This morning he told me he took 15 IR Adderrall at 11:40am and took 2 - 10/325 Hydrocodone = 20mg hydro and 650 APAP. Both orally taken normally. It is now 1:04pm and nothing is going like it did that one good time. Any suggestions? This ever happened to anyone before? My said he has heard that going weeks without would break down the tolerance but he has went months without and still not doing what it should SOS! When should the next dose take place? Thank you!

Hi there, welcome to BL and BDD :) we ask that you don't use SWIM here - it doesn't protect you and just makes your posts hard to read; check the BLUA you signed up to (top of your screen). I would be grateful if you could edit your post, or I can do it :)

Often your tolerance will never return to baseline, even after a long break. Redosing and upping your dose are the start of a slippery slope; the higher you dose, the higher your tolerance will rise, until hydrocodone isn't cutting it at all and you have to move onto stronger opioids. It's a path many of us are familiar with and it rarely ends well.. you end up chasing something you can never catch, and before you know it you will have a huge opioid habit. Be careful <3

Are you currently prescribed both? What is it you are getting out of them at the mo?

Safety-wise, be careful not to consume more than 4000mg APAP in 24 hrs or 2000mg in one dose. You should be safe to take another dose now, but do be careful, as I said, or you will end up pushing your tolerance up further and risking addiction.

Usually doctors would leave 4-6 hrs between prescribed doses.

Thank you Effie for responding. Sorry about the swim. I fixed it :) Thought it was a requirement. I seen it on alot of threads in alot of forums. He is currently prescribed both for different reasons. The combo really made a huge difference for pain management and depression problems. Only problem he ever had was one time when he was also taking celexa, his heart rate went down to 47 and stayed there for 3 days. Took potassium to bring it back up. The celexa/adderall combo caused Serotonin Syndrome and made his heart act up. I am posting this for a friend, he does not much about the net. Trying to help him out, I worry about him. Dr took him off Celexa completely. The combo just is not helping like it used to. It used to realllllllly make his day alot better. It stopped him from thinking so much and stopped his pain from his herniated discs and nerve damage in his back. Not sure why it is not working now. Kinda confused. He redosed adderall 10mg and an hour later took 20 mg more of hydrocodone and really didnt get the same effect. Wonder why it helps sometimes and doesnt the next? Should he take them together? Is that safe? He was always told to make sure it was approx 30mins to an hour apart. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you very much for your time :)

If you friend takes these drugs on a habitual basis then the obvious answer is tolerance. The one thing that comes to mind is whether or not these pills were taken on an empty stomach.

With the vast majority of meds, especially opiates and benzos, food in the stomach will VASTLY diminish the subjective feel of the drug due to decreased rate of absorption and lower peak plasma levels. Make sure to dose on an empty stomach. If he really hasn't used in months and was never a high-dose user, I really wouldn't expect any sort of lingering tolerance phenomenon that you sometimes see with the higher-dose users/abusers.

Only problem he ever had was one time when he was also taking celexa, his heart rate went down to 47 and stayed there for 3 days. Took potassium to bring it back up.

Why would he take potassium to elevate heart rate? Unless he was diagnosed based on blood chemistry analysis there is no reason to suspect hypokalemia, especially since bradycardia is not typically indicative of low serum potassium. Certainly oral supplementation (unless very large doses) of K is not going to have an appreciable effect on heart rate.

Based on what I remember from my human physiology courses, the slope of the SA node's pacemaker potential would not be expected to decrease in response to hypokalemia. That is mostly mediated through Ca2+ leak channels and of course parasympathetic (vagal) innervation and sympathetic stimulation via epinephrine and norepinephrine.

Also, serotonin syndrome is usually associated with tachycardia (elevated HR). What makes him think amphetamine + SSRI induced serotonin syndrome? Its possible, but exceedingly rare.

Thank you for your information. Serotonin Syndrome was diagnosed by his doctor. They did blood work and discovered that his potassium levels were rock bottom and they gave him 2 potassium pills and his heart went back into the 80s within a few hours. At the time he was on an odd combination of prescribed meds. Adderall, Percocet, Valium and Celexa. All for pain management and depression. Doctor told him that more than likely it was the Celexa/Adderall or Celexa/Percocet combos that was what caused his heartrate to bottom out. He had not took the Adderall in a while and the day he took the Adderall, that is when it went to the 40s in heartrate. So they figure it was the Celexa/Adderall combo. I did some research and noticed that there is a warning for a reaction between Celexa and Adderall and also one for Celexa and Percocet. Could have been either one. He has a normal high heartrate. Last time I had him at the doctor, the doctor was concerned because his heartrate was 112 and for his to bottom out that low, it was scary. Since stopping the Celexa like the doctor told him to, he has not had any more heart related issues. His heartrate has stayed within normal range. Very strange. I guess it can happen tho, cause it happened to him. Since not much of a tolerance has built up, still questionable on why the combo of Adderall/Hydrocodone works sometimes and doesnt others. He did inform me that he had eaten breakfast right after he dosed the Adderall. That could have been it. Just strange how it works perfect one time and then the next it is like he didnt take the Adderall at all. Thanks again for the info and advice.
