OK I'm sure all you fellow gong heads are in the know that carbon has for a while now been used more in accessories and tiny but expensive adapters.
There is the short version as I'm posting on my phone and it boots me...
1. Stop using butane to smoke. Get some hemp wick, herbiron,or ceramic soldering iron. Your taste buds and lungs will thank you.
2. Go to any store and buy active carbon in the pet section. Costs 6-10 bucks and is at Walmart, target, etc.
3. Get.a 19mm ashcatcher. 14mm could function but could have issues getting Carbon in or out. Not just any will do though. It can be of any make, model, or design but it must be of a type with a tube not restricted. Ie it won't work well with any tree perc or basic bowl in one ashcatchers but shower head,dome, circ, or similar type perc will be great.
4. Fill the body of the ashcatcher 1/2 to 2/3 with carbon. It needs to be filled to the same level as the highest the water could be before it sucks water. If not sure error on the side of more.
5. Fill the area of the diffuser in the tube enough to fully cover the slits. Error on the side of less here. You don't want enough to restrict the flow but enough to catch your ash.
Now enjoy a cleaner, less harsh smoke. This will lessen the flavor a bit but does not make it tasteless, so if you smoke trash it won't make you gag as much but your dank won't have that flavor punch. Effect if anything should be better in my experience.
