Brainrape + A constant steady injection of crystal meth every 3 hours, and a lesiurley browse through my library = a psuedo-apap FAQ, or informative guide, I hope.
All this info comes from a USC School of Pharmacy text book, Toxicology and Poison Prevention (Book 8 of 9, I acquired the whole set of pharmocological books by chance)Written by Bruce H. Woolley Phram D. and Anthony R. Temple M.D. 1976 (So some of this info may be outdated, so here are the BASICS)
Of course, all of us "smart" drug users by now that Acetaminophen is BAD for you, but you rarely hear much more than that, well here is some basic info and the symptons to look for in case of apap poisioning, and some other medical junk that's just kind of intresting:
ACETAMINOPHEN
Basic Info:
First of all, Acetaminophen has analgesic and antipyretic properties like salicylates (Asprin), but lacks an anti-inflammatory effect. It's analgesic and antipyretic properties appear to be euivalent to Asprin. Since the 1960's there has been a dramtic increase in the number of deaths attributed to acetaminophen intoxication.
Detrimental Effects:
The principal reported toxic effect of acetaminophen is liver damage. Acetaminophen is meatbolized to a toxic metabolite that binds to liver cells resulting in liver cell destruction. Signs such as jaundice and a tremor or "flap" will appear, along with confusion and ultimatley hepatic coma. If you survive, these symptons will gradually abate. Since the patient only has mild symptons initally, the severity of intoxication is NOT readily apparent at the outset.
On average 1 out of 10 patients diagnosed at a hospital with acetaminophen poisoning die.
Clinical Manifestations:
Initally, an individual who ingests a single overdose of acetaminophen will not experience serious symptons.
On the first day, the patient may experience a loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, and mild abdominal pain. Obviously these symptons can be caused by a number of things. If hepatic damage occurs, tests will show abnormal liver function approx 2 days after ingestion. In severe cases, on about the 3rd day, the patient will show evidence of frank hepatic damage and liver failure.
Toxic Dose:
To date, no cases have been reported with toxic manifestations in patients who have ingested LESS than 150mg/kg of acetaminophen. In patients who have taken over 300mg/kg deaths have been reported. Liver failure or liver damage has been reported for doses BETWEEN these values
If blood levels are taken 4 hours after an ingestion of acetaminophen, patients are unlikey to have liver damage if the level is less than 120mcg/ml. If level is above 300mcg/ml liver damage is very likley to occur. Similarly if blood levels at 12 hours after ingestion are greater than 50mcg/ml, the patient will most likely develop liver damage.
Acetaminophen is metabolized by the liver and thus causes liver damage. The half-life (T-1/2) is usually less than 4 hours in patients without liver disease. Once the patient has sustained liver damage, the half-life is likley to be has high as 60 hours, since the liver can no longer metabolize the drug. The ratio between the minnimum and potentially fatal dose of acetaminophen is VERY narrow.
Treatment:
(Note: Get to a fucking hospital, that is all you can do.)
Charcoal perfusion is a method of blood detoxification, the blood is perfused over activated charcoal outside of the body to remove the acetaminophen. Cysteamine has been shown to prevent liver damage if administered less than 12 hours after the ingestion. N-acetylcysteine has also shown positive effects and is the preffered antidote currently. General supportive management for liver failure, if antidotal therapy is not given or is ineffective, is the only other treatment. The primary treatment for liver failure consists of treating the symptons of coma associated with hepatic failure in an effort to stop irreparable nervous system damage.
The mortality of an untreated acute overdose of acetaminophen is VERY high.
(Personal Notes)
This shit sucks. No unique symptons show up to indicate medical attention is needed if you do take to much. But unless you go to the doctor fast you have a real good chance of a painful death and to top it off the baseline and fatal dose of poisioning are so fucking close it's very easy to cross that imaginary line....
There ya go folks, I found it intresting personally, these are the BARE minimum basics, I just thought I'd a add a bit of info about Apap since you hear so much about not using it, but not much info as to why not, and what to look for in case you take too much...
Well, it's been fun kids, I think on my next meth binge I might write another little synopsis on, say, Strycnine poisioning, you know, in case you eat too much acid and OD on it

"Rock and roll adolescents storm into the streets of all nations. They rush into the Louvre and throw acid in the Mona Lisa's face. They open zoo's, insane asslyums, prisons, burst water mains with air hammers, Chop the floor out of passanger plane lavatories, shoot out lighthouses, turn sewers into the water supply, administer injections with bicycle pumps. They shit on the floor of the United Nations and wipe thier ass with the treaties, pacts, alliances."

Hmmmm...a FAQ? This just might be my ticket to Bluelight fame and fortune. And I'm ceartinly not opposed to getting more meth, killing an hour and expanding this thing into a full blown FAQ...
So mods, is there any demand currently for an Acetaminophen FAQ?

ACET is a nasty drug?
I'd have to disagree there. Just because it causes a little nausea sometimes doesn't mean it's "nasty". And why the surprise that it's an OTC drug? Just because it can be unsafe doesn't mean they won't sell it to everyone. I'm not being a prick but lately in conversations with friends I've been getting kind of pissed off. I don't see why in this "free society" which we live in (I'm speaking from the U.S. perspective here) why aren't we allowed to have the freedom to put whatever we want into our bodies? It doesn't make sense. The vast majority of overdoses and deaths are due to 1)impure product (if everything was legal there'd be no need for an underground market, this won't happen then) 2) stupidity/not being informed (if everything was legal people wouldn't feel like drugs are somehow a taboo subject) 3) addiction (addicts don't seek treatment and people die because they don't want to go to a treatment center or hospital because they're afraid of going to jail). If everything was legalized these problems would be eradicated. And anyone who believes the entire nation will become drug zombies and everything will come to hault is sadly mistaken. The vast majority of drug users that I know that are very responsible in their consumption and know "moderation in all things". Sure there will always be idiots who eat 8 grams of cubenis, take a ten-strip of geltabs, chew 2 pills, snort a fat line of coke followed by a another one of Ketamine, and then smoke until they pass out and die, but that's just natural selection. The weaker/stupider go first, hopefully before they reproduce. Sorry this isn't making much since as a rant/humor post or anything. It's late here and I've got a heavy hydrocodone buzz.

brandon, man, you're preaching to the chiour here... all those points have been made and agreed with, we all wish drugs were legal..
APAP is actually a safe and good drug when used as directed...

"I am not one of those weak-spirited, sappy Americans who want to be liked by all the people around them. I don't care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do. The important question is: 'What are they in a position to do about it?'" (William S. Burroughs)

Well looks like thier is support for this thing to become a FAQ...so...
What exactly is the process for submitting a FAQ to bluelight?
Who do I email the final draft too? Is there any FAQ writing guidelines to adhere too? Essentially just the basic info...
So any of you FAQ writers or mods out there, some info would be great if possible...

For the lazy, 150mg/kg puts a minimum for toxicity at around 8 grams, and death becomes a possiblility at around 16 grams.
Also, it is not good to chronically take more than 4-6 grams of acetaminophen daily. Acetaminophen is an nonspecific inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), and COX-1 has important cytoprotective effects, especially in the stomach lining. More that 4-6g/day can suppress the activity of COX-1 enough that problems develop; but occasionally exceeding this amount is not dangerous (until you to the toxic doses above).
Hate to resurrect this thread from the dead, but may I suggest one of the mods move it into the Health Q&A Archive and/or the Other drugs archive? Or perhaps throw prune it and throw it into a FAQ?
