I've never been a frequent user of amphetamines, will occasionally take amphetamine for work purposes or down hill mountain biking. One day of July this, my speed dealer rang me saying he had some excellent speed if I was interested. At this stage I'd not had any for a few months so thought 'why not'. Now the speed we get here (sold as 'base', not really sure why as it's a sulphate salt), is always cut to a massive degree and effects only become apparent at 250+ mg, generally if I want to do work half a gram to a gram is the mark, where as for pure recreation anything up to 3.5g is nice.
So I received 2g of this 'really good base', it looked pasty rather than crystalline and smelt funny, which was odd. I don't know why this didn't concern me more, probably because I was high. I preceded to dissolve 1/2 g of the stuff in water and drink, the taste was near enough to regular amphetamine sulphate that no further concerns struck me.
45 minutes later I was EXTREMELY wired, more so than I've ever been on amphetamine, the feeling had an extra and unexpected, serotonin component to it. I rang my deal and said this was indeed VERY strong, and commented on the difference in taste/smell/effects. He was like 'yes mate, it's bangin, called methamphetamine or sumthin'. I'd just consumed half a gram of what I now believe to be fairly pure methamphetamine! Fuck. 6 Hours of incredible stimulation and euphoria followed, with no unpleasantness (though my heart rate was very high). After 6 hours, I started to feel more and more strung out, heart was going faster and faster, vasoconstriction kicked in and sweat was pouring from my body. A horrible headache came on at about the 9th hour, and a feeling of mental sketchyness. By the 12th hour I was feeling fucking horrible and on the brink of insanity. I'm normally a hard head when it comes to stimulants and rarely get over stimulated, suffer insomnia or have any type of comedown. This was very different though, I was physically stimulated for about 36 hours off of a single dose (had NO desire to take more), couldn't get to sleep and was climbing up the walls.
For about two weeks after it felt like my brain had partly melted and I was very depressed and tired, thankfully lots of vegetable, rest and exercise did eventually cure this with no long terms affects.
I didn't know much about meth, and had read nothing about oral consumption. 500 mg of pure amphetamine would be a massive dose I know, and meth is stronger. Looking at the erowid dosage chart scares me, 125mg is listed as the highest dose 'very strong'. Although this stuff was probably cut, I get the feeling it was probably fairly pure. This was probably the scariest drug experience of my life in terms of fearing for my physical well being, I genuinely feel grateful for being alive and have largely avoided stimulants since.
Anyone had a similar experience of mistaken ID? Also could anyone hazard a guess as to the purity of meth sold in the UK?
