No, not so much brand to brand but I do feel a noticable difference between the buzz of low quality and top shelf. Also each different type of spirit has some differentiating qualities to it. For example there is a different buzz between gin/vodka and whiskey. This is not just placebo because it has been proven that dark spirits (whiskey in particular) contain other chemical components that contribute to a different buzz. There was actually a post in OD about this not too long ago if I recall.
the only difference between gin/vodka/whiskey is that the darker spirits are less natural (hence more man-made) that lead to a longer, worse hangover than vodka or other clear liquor.

i'm no ethanol expert, but I was always under the impression that more additives are added to darker spirits which leads to a longer hangover. Like for example, red wine is harsher on the body then white.
Whiskey and vodka do NOT have different buzzes. The only psychoactive ingredient in both is ethanol, and if it's the same proof then they have the same exact effects by weight.
I want to drink real absinthe and alcohol that just tastes like absinthe to see if I can tell a noticeable difference. I'd do this about 10 times, 5 times with the real stuff, 5 times with the flavored stuff. Of course, I would never know what I was drinking.
