i've been thinking the same exact thing for a while now. i mean, i saw anti-meth ads a while back but than they stopped showing up.


wheres the anti-heroin, anti-coke, anti-anything ads? it's pretty sad that they focus only on weed, the most safest drug out there.



fuckin america, it's full of idiots because it was run by one for 8 fucking years.....i thought we would have learned after the first run but was disappointed when i continued seeing the braindead redneck monkey lookin motherfucker running this country.

the reason they aim at weed is because its the place that most people start as far as illegal drugs go, screw nicotine, alcohol, or caffeine being gateway drugs lets blame the weed... If you can scare people away from something they dont fully understand early you have a better chance of keeping them away from other things.... for us that have smoked weed before we know that 99% of what these ads tell us is lies so we really dont give a fuck about them... to them the poly drug users are lost causes, they try to prevent instead of persuade...

i haven't been to the site but it sounds like it is very similar to what DARE preaches to kids... i think they should make them more honest and not have complete bullshit because i feel a lot of kids know they are being toyed with. so when they find out that it was all false, whats to stop them from thinking everything else being told them is lies?

funny thing about our world today, is for many underaged people it is easier to get however much of just about any illegal drug than it is to get a bottle of booze or a pack of cigarettes... dealers don't card, gas stations and liquor stores do...

funny thing is, its the legal one that cause the deaths of the most people... alcohol kills something like 100 times as many people as every illegal drug combined, cigarettes kill 5 times as many people as alcohol...

im not saying weed isn't a gateway drug, but hell i was a poly drug user from day 1... popped a few klonopin, smoked some weed and blacked the fuck out... woke up and smoked some more weed... shortly thereafter i had tried dxm, lsd, mushrooms, salvia, oxy and hydrocodone, nitrous, E, propylhexedrine, dramamine, ambien, opium.....

Im the type who likes to try just about everything once.... Im not a huge fan of stimulants so i stay away from them for the most part... I still want to try DMT, K, the 2c-x family of compounds, and a few other things...

whats wrong with trying other drugs? As long as you stay in control of your usage and dont wind up dead or crazy i think its perfectly fine...

Wow, can we expect a remake or a sequel of reefer-madness written and directed John Wlaters?

The good news is after a quick scan through the comments I could not find anyone who bought it. In fact the majority of the comments are people tearing the PSA apart.
 
I actually knew a kid in highschool that believed this bullshit, so what did he do to get around the influence? He started abusing computer duster. Anti drug psa commercials sure save the nations children

There is no evidence that there is a pharmacological basis for the cannabis gateway drug myth. Or any other scientific basis for that matter.

The major study that the drug warriors site which is really a survey and not a study at all, asked addicts of hard drugs if they started with marijuana which many of them said yes. Now we all know they could have got just as large if not larger yes vote if they asked the same question about beer, or tobacco or milk and cookies.=D

So because 0.1% of the (once) cannabis using population may go on to become a hard drug addict who takes a survey for the federal government, that some how in logical fallacy land means the other 99.9% are destined for the same fate and it is not a matter of if but when...:|.

While I completely disagree with the generalizations these commercials imply about potheads, I don't think they will be imbedded into the heads of anyone who knows that advertisements are almost always misleading. The people who are most likely to consider the ads to be an accurate portrayal of reality are those who fit the description of the potheads in the commercial.

AKA THE IRRESPONSIBLE POTHEADS.

But it's not like you have to quit weed completely. If anything, weed has made me more responsible cause I've learned that I can only use it when the time is completely right. And now I know when the time is right.

Its been a couple years since I cruised through that site. I think I sent them an email detailing exactly how they were immoral and corrupting youth. I got a form letter in return. The truth is that they don't need to listen to concerned citizens who want their kids to be told the truth rather than lied to "for their own good". They are making bank off the drug war. Does anyone else think it is more immoral to profit from the war on drugs, than to profit from the sale of drugs?

From my own experience i wouldnt say marijuana is a gateway drug more like the entrance to a mall. Yeah you go there and you want a video game but you end up with the game, some clothes, you got a pretzel. Same thing with going to a dealer but switch items for drugs. Which is why legalization would lower the risk.

Also i tend to believe marijuana is at least equal to tobacco smoke. Just because inhaling smoke of any kind isnt exactly good and unfiltered is worse. To deny that marijuana doesnt have its cons is a foolish thing. Though im not saying weed is horrible, i enjoy it as much as anyone, just be real drugs are not good for the body. I do find the points they focus on to be more related to the individual, dumbasses who get stoned dont get smarter and smart kids dont get stupid. If i did worse in high school it was because i didnt do homework what can i say name a teenager who does do homework. I managed to get into a good university trying to get a degree in chemistry. All those things are based on individuals actions and cant be used to define a group. Also who hasnt accidentally ditched friends for weed or drugs the old "oh its only going to take 30 minutes" and it becomes a full day afair.
 
My understanding of the carcinogenic effects of cannabis vs tobacco are as follows

disregarding the actual toxicity of the plant (because this debate has been going on since what seems like the beginning of time) and assuming that the only parts of the plant that are being smoked are the parts generally smoked by your average user (ie not the stem) the tobacco in cigarettes contain far more carcinogenic and dangerous chemicals, this is because the plants are grown on industrial farmland which has been recycled for the same use over and over, this basically acts like a sieve which deprives the soil of necessary nutrients and traps industrial chemicals in the plants

this is my understanding
