My pdoc just started adding 5mg of Abilify in the morning to the 75mg invega sustenna and I am trying abilify because I have sexual problems with invega sustenna.

The first day of taking Abilify and I couldn't freaking sleep at all and I am suppose to move up to 10mg for it to be effective for psychosis so I don't know what to do anymore... obviously I can't keep taking it if I can't sleep and it sucks because Abilify is supposedly the best med to take if you are having sexual troubles...

So what I am asking is if anyone here has any experience with Abilify and insomnia or antipsychotics and sexual problems.

What you can do is tell your doctor what is happening. It's up to them to decide how to fix the problem. Don't give up just because this happened. It takes time to find the proper medication regimen. If it happened overnight we'd all be fine and dandy and this subforum would be out of business.

I've had a few psych meds over the years give me insomnia but after time it subsided. Like Jerry said, talk with your doctor if it continues.

Aripiprazol ruined me once, I will never take it willingly again.
It began with sleep problems, I told it to the man who prescribed it to me and he added Melperon (another antipsychotic drug) to take before sleep. After about ten days the hell opened its doors an sucked me in.
It took me a lot of time to realize what happened - akathisia did. I could not sit down for any longer then 15 min, no matter where and why. As Melperon was cancelled, I felt dumb and cognitive retarded because of Abilify continuously and had problems with coordination. In this condition I made some fatal decisions and failed at school. The dose of Abilify was at 5 mg...

Beware of Tardive dyskinesia!!!

As Jerry says, psychiatry is trial and error. If it was all so easy, we'd all be happy and sorted in our lives.

Your doc is supposed to be managing your symptoms and concerns so get them to manage it.

I've been on a range of 'psychiatric drugs' including atypical anti-psychotics and they can be quite nasty and their side effects do take a while to shake off. Hold on in there and speak with your doc.
