ABC Special: Ecstasy Rising (Download Link on Page 3 !)

hi JTNOLA5211.

this is huge and i have only seen a larry king interview with peter jennings about 3 hours prior to the show ( but rebroadcast in asia so i have only seen same a few hours after it actually appeared ).

TIME rules everything.

can BL host same even though i suspect same will be hosted elsewhere??.

the gov't had taken down its info on MDMA some time prior to the broadcast. it has put up revised info basically agreeing with jenning's broadcast. ( basically paraphrased so may not be 100% accurate )

"America's illicit drug of choice"

Bullshit. Lots more coke, weed & I think even meth being done. Heroin? Unsure. Alchohol? Tons more, but it's legal, for some dumb reason.

EXCELLENT SHOW!

We need a digital copy spread all over the place now!

The sleeping general poplulation must see this and WAKE UP!

Funcrusher.

That was the point i was trying to make in my last post in this thread. Objective information is showing that X is not as bad as what we have been told in the past, and people are percieving this fact to be "pro-ecstasy". Once agian, these were the exact same assumptions and reactions i got when i posted the objective info on another board.

The assumption seems to be- "If they are saying that its not bad for you, then they must be saying it is good for you."

Ugh, When are people gonna learn to see beyond good and evil?

By the way, i read the link. Anybody who thinks ecstasy use is going down amoung teens cause a report has numbers is delusional. Numbers sometime fail to reflect reality alltogether and it is so in this case.

Pretty nice to see something new on mainstream media. The truth about a drug is finally being told by someone who conservatives trust-- Peter Jennings.

I wouldn't go that far! Peter Jennings is just about the most left-leaning 'journalist' in the mainstream, very far from balanced overall. I would say that conservatives as a whole loathe the guy.

However, this report was very good and extremely conscientious at telling the truth. I thought it was just incredibly cool that we all got a chance to see doc Shulgin at home, in the lab, etc. It was great to hear his take on the issue, he showed a lot of courage and gave the story even more credibility. Yeah Sasha!

Still looking for a volunteer who taped the show, anyone got TIVO/PVR so that we can host the file on FTP server somewhere ?

uumpaloompa: no need to be an asshole and call me an idiot... look what you said --> "and bullshit made up facts." unless you meant to put a not in there, what you said sounded VERY sarcastic. I was simply saying to you that he might have something good to say and that maybe you shouldn't be so skeptical. Seeing as how what you clearly meant was to support him, maybe you should look at what YOU wrote instead of calling me an idiot before even looking... geez...8) remember the no flaming rule too?

That was by far the best "special" regarding exstacy I have ever seen.....for once the media tells the government it is full of shit when it comes to the so called negative effects of X:D
Yeah I was really suprised on the angle that ABC took at the end of the show. This was by far the best report ive seen on ecstasy. Big ups Peter Jennings.

So.
Do you think Peter Jennings tried it?

on the larry king live show he categorically denied he ever had, or would, because it was illegal. i believe him.

I was thourghly inmpressed with the unbiased opnions of this special. Its good to educate people from an unbiased standpoint instead of the governments usual it eats holes in your brain, or it turns you into a sex hungry pyscho serial killer. Now only if this was taught in classrooms.........

Has anyone read the "legalization of marijuana" article in Details by Bill Maher?

HE made a very interesting point in the article. It was, in order to make a serious and legit run at legalizing marijuana .....There must be people who actually dont use the drug to promote its use. There are too many stoners who simply say " YEa dude....hehe.....weed's good...uhhh......yea lagalize this stuff"

These people arent taken seriously and lack creditbility. The strongest staement is made when someone stands for something on pure principle w/o the personal gain.

But i think in an indirect way Peter Jennings is making the same type of statement. He is making this type of statement simply on principle. He is in no way condoning its use. Neither would he favor it just simply b/c he uses it, IMHO

I think ultimately he is making a stand toward government propaganda. The biased propaganda doesnt necessarily just exist w/in drugs. I think he is also making a subtle statement about the way the government mislead the world about WMD in Iraq.

I dont think it would be wise for him or NBC to make a direct statement against the war b/c its such a hot topic and subject to scrutiny. Its a subliminal statement about the credibilty, well lack ther of, w/ the government.

Its a big wake up call and i have been waiting a long time for this type of enlightenment to occur in mainstream media.

Wow so many posts already!

I think all of us bluelighters are more excited about this than the majority of the people who saw it. I opened up the Chicago Tribune and the NY Times this morning, dissapointed to find there were no stories written on the report. There should be tons of publicity with this program. It should be run again and again until everyone is rolling balls in the street. I sort of wish I lived in Dallas in 1982 but my guess is that the music sucked. They said that even cowboys were taking it. Could you imagine an empathetic, loved up, touchy-feely cowboy guzzling water and line dancing with a pacifier in his mouth? I can! Best news story ever. I think more people should see this report than The Passion, it is a better and happier story altogether.

great post !

on the larry king promotional it also spent more time rotating onto another special he had done on jesus / paul and detailing historical facts / opinions compared to the widely believed propoganda.

I'm in complete agreement that this was very well-done. I'm so glad that Dr. Shulgin and his vast body of work were portrayed in such an incredibly positive light. He's been a personal hero for awhile and I'm thrilled to have been given the opportunity to meet and chat with him and his wonderful wife last summer.

I found the part about the former divinity student turned manufacturer quite enlightening. He said something to the effect that there were 3 turning points in his life: being called to the service of God, meeting his wife and taking ecstasy for the first time. I know how much taking ecstasy for the first time changed me and my outlook on the world.

Kudos to Peter Jennings to a job fabulously done. I watched the program with my dad (not an ecstasy user though he did it once in the 80s when it was still legal) and it dispelled a lot of myths he had about the drug.

I giggled when I saw all the people in their 30s and 40s essentially "raving" at the club in Dallas at the beginning of the show. Imagine going to a party and seeing your parents' friends! What a different world it is now.

Peter Jennings Reporting: Jesus and Paul - The Word and the Witness

The Monday before Easter, in a three-hour primetime event, ABC News will try to get at the real story of Jesus and Paul, two men who, against all odds, changed the course of human history. "Peter Jennings Reporting: Jesus and Paul - The Word and the Witness" airs Monday, April 5 (8:00-11:00 PM).

The first century was barely 30 years old, and Rome ruled the world from Europe to the heart of the Middle East. The Caesars were gods and most people knew nothing about a young Jewish peasant named Jesus of Nazareth, who preached on the edge of the Roman Empire.

When Jesus died on the cross, he left behind a small and frightened group of followers struggling to make sense of his humiliating end. Most Jews either rejected his message or ignored it. As noted scholar and best-selling author Karen Armstrong says in Jennings' report, "If anyone had said this is a great idea for a new religion, a man who died a disgraceful death of a common criminal in an obscure province of the Roman Empire who is in some way divine, people would have laughed in your face!"

Yet within a few decades, and against all odds, the tiny Jesus movement began to spread and, in spite of ridicule, suspicion and persecution, would ultimately displace the Caesars, as well as the mystery religions and pagan cults that crowded the Roman world.

Paul did perhaps more than anyone to make that happen, even though he never knew Jesus. After Jesus' death and resurrection, Paul becomes the main character in the Bible story about the birth of Christianity. According to the Bible, Paul had a sudden conversion on the road to Damascus, and began preaching the stories of the crucifixion and Jesus' resurrection in a way that was appealing to a broad audience. Were it not for Paul, says Armstrong, "Christianity probably would have remained a small sect within Judaism."

The program includes the perspectives of a wide variety of biblical scholars -- secular and religious, Christian and Jewish, liberal and conservative. Both conservative and liberal scholars agree that it was Paul who first articulated the ideas we have about the Jesus who was sent by God to die in order to redeem the world's sins. The letters Paul wrote as he traveled the Roman Empire form the basis of the religion that today we call Christianity. Ironically, Paul "never anticipates that 20th century Americans are going to be his audience," historian Pamela Eisenbaum tells Jennings. "He has no idea, because he thinks the world is going to end."

Paul, who is a central figure in the New Testament, is as controversial today as he was in the first century. His words are read from pulpits throughout the world every Sunday. But scholars tell Jennings that, in Paul's own day, he fought bitterly with the closest friends and family of Jesus, who all had a different vision for their fledgling movement. Paul is described by some as a madman and by others as a genius. He is the author of the famous "Hymn of Love" read at modern Christian weddings.

But he is also the man blamed for centuries of anti-Semitism. The program looks at the fairness of such characterizations, as it traces Paul's role in turning Christianity into a religion that was distinct from Judaism.

"Peter Jennings Reporting: Jesus and Paul - The Word and the Witness" takes viewers back to a time and place when Christianity was but a tiny movement struggling for survival, telling the story of two men -- Jesus and Paul - who had remarkable faith, iron will and a radical vision. Without them, Christianity as we know it today would not exist. Both sacrificed everything in the belief that God had chosen them to change the world. And they did.

ABCNEWS.com will feature companion programming, including a comprehensive interactive map and timeline of Paul's journey, a gallery of images, web-exclusive articles, more about the scholars interviewed in the program, and a message board for viewers to debate ideas. The broadcast will also appear on ABC News Live, the 24/7 Internet news channel for a broadband audience available to subscribers at ABCNEWS.com.

No other network has demonstrated more commitment to covering issues of spirituality and religion than ABC News. From "Peter Jennings Reporting: The Search for Jesus," which aired in June 2000, to the November 2003 special, "Jesus, Mary and da Vinci," to last month's "Mel Gibson's Passion," ABC News consistently focuses attention on the complex, often controversial issues surrounding religious history and personal faith that are at the heart of American culture.

If bluelight would like to host it they can. I recorded it and am going to chop the commercials out now and get it up on the first available host.

Another good thing I saw was.. directly after the show was over, the ten o'clock news came on and the first thing they discussed was new findings revealing MDMA "may have great benefits and the government's study which showed the drug was harmful may be incorrect".

Our 10:00 news had a 'local' ecstasy story afterwards too, but it totally mised the point. It went along the lines of "you've heard from Peter Jennings about the dangers of ecstasy, now hear a local horror story about this devil-drug.."

They obviously had not considered that ABC would spin their piece any way but negative and they really demonstrated their ignorance on the whole subject. Stupid flunkin local news :p
