ABC Hungry Beast live forum on decrim of drugs in Aust on right now...

I was just about to post this! But I live in QLD, so it's on in 15min.

Will let you know my thoughts on it in a bit.

...ok so now they're just making me annoyed, as too many people are talking at once! :p

haha as i recall very unbias vs ACA or simular shows. Props to HungehBEEEST! Ive been active on the discusion as it is and was *just* about to post this same topic. lol. Anyways, this is a good step forward to a proper and well morally justified drug/medication legislation. More power to the hungry beast! Also watching the report made me die alot on the inside, not just a lil like when you realise your stuck in a shit job for the rest of your life only to retire to a shit appartment to die.

I think it gave a very balanced view on illegal drug use, the place in society in australia, and the reasons and evidence for decriminalisation.

Props to angry beast. This should be youtube soon, as most of their good segments are normally on there. So i'll link it tommorow if I find it.

Yep - as many of the speakers reiterated, this is not geared at endorsing or condoning the use of drugs - but accepting it as part of our culture, and focusing on the eradication of black market profiteering.

Refreshing, but depressing, because I know the geopolitical nature of this country (and no less - the deaf ears of the majority of government representatives), and thus see no end in sight for the 'war on drugs'. :\

Interesting story, but I would imagine Hungry Beasts target audience would be a bit like preaching to the converted.

Very amused at that final statistic where 50% (or thereabouts) said they worried others would use drugs more if they were legal but 97% claimed they personally would not.

The ex-copper was also interesting until he said "I hate drugs" and he lost a bit of credibility in my eyes. An emotive attitude like that is not whats needed.

I think they were not about legalising drugs so they are easier to get. But more of changing it from a criminal issue to a medical issue.

So they are still anti-drug use, just changing the treatment plan for those that use drugs.

That is what I got from it.

I found the segment about the carbon footprints, and where your money from purchasing drugs was ending up, as it is often a question that I have asked myself.

Was disappointed that they did not touch on amphetamines in that regard though, as I suspect that at least some of that ends up in places that we would not really want to know...

In regards to the forum.... I tried to log on, but the server was not playing the game...

I loved that link. Really hate that it was...
Banned stating that it had "no medical use" FALSE.
Banned because it caused "parkisons decease" FALSE
Banned because of it's high risk of abuse - True, but as a result just became black market.

Not saying that MDMA should neccesarily be legalised, but I whole Heartadly it should be for medical uses. A survey was done in Britain late 2008 showing that MDMA for Post Traumatic Stress helped 85% of patients whilst the current methods only help 15%
Thats a huge difference.

Thats the only clip I've watched already, but gonna get onto the others soon enough.

Normally I'd agree, Emotive responses are not whats needed in this day and age. But the point he was trying to make was that even though he hates drugs, he thinks they should be legalised and controlled. And being an expert and hater on drugs I think thats a perfect statement and glad he said it.

this, and good luck getting a policeman (retired or otherwise) to admit on television that he loves or agrees with drugs.

Honestly though, if it takes me less than a fortnight to find 'softcore' drugs ala psychs and weed, and i can find 'hardcore' drugs any time after 9pm, it makes you wonder who really benefits from criminalization :)
(preaching to the choir, i know i know.)

^^^^ think of the unemployment rates skyrocketing....

i.e., just imagine how many cops would be out of a job if this shit got the thumbs up :p

the prisons would be fairly empty, too. so all those prison workers would have to find alternative employment as well.

imagine what could be done with all that government money going towards their salaries... surely, not something constructive!!!!! :\

Excellent point!

It's easier and quicker for me to get heroin than soft drugs ... I gather some bureaucrats and drug warriors would grow another spleen if they heard that. This is not a good sign for current drug policies.

The Australian Heroin Diaries

Addiction was diagnosed as an illness over 100 years ago ... Society has just decided to treat it as a crime.

If people that wanted to take mdma had a blue card and could take it once every 3 months legally - then what is the issue? It would only make this world a better place....

I'd love to see some form of trial.

It sucks that Australia is notoriously known for our lack of trials when it comes to drugs, just look at Our RC (research chemical) laws.
