After fiinding almost nothing anywhere about this method, Watching those documentaries where they just use a barrel or diesel or a barrel of Gasoline as the solvent make me think this could work. I posted in similar forums and although more than TWO HUNDRED people viewed, no one made a comment.

well here goes, im gonna put this up for 24hrs and hope for some comments. if nothing,i will try both and see if either is effective as a nonpolar solvent. shame i might have to waste $40 in the process.

A quick google search reveals that gasoline is indeed a natural, non-polar compound. It does cause dissolution (is a solvent) of other non-polar molecules.

Typically speaking, people use H2O for opiate extraction. As we know H2O is a polar solvent, and thus more corrosive to its own kind.

While doing some googling, hexane is used for codeine extraction as well - also a non-polar solvent - so I think your idea may work. Let us know!

Also - I presume that tek (we don't allow in depth discussion here as far as I know) includes a washing procedure? I would hope so after using gasoline, anyhow.

I imagine this could be countered by using race gas. Unless that's not held to a higher standard of purity for some reason, but I imagine it would be as the "race gas" can sometimes be up to and beyond 110 octane.. (Sorry, not sure of the RON or whatever the EU standard is for gasoline volatility measurement).

That, and I'm sure there's a way / place to find something that would be required. (Remember, NO SOURCING.)

Octane has to do with the amount of force the gasoline can withstand before detonating, not how pure it is. Although they are related, gasoline you buy at a gas station has lots of other crap in it: sulfur in PPM, lead in PPB, etc etc. Not to mention that now a days it is legally allowed for most gasolines to contain up to a certain % ethanol in order to use less of the actual petrol (I believe its up to 10%?). While not exactly huge amounts, when youre talking about chemical reactions even things on that scale can have negative consequences.

I mean if youre expecting a galloon 100% non polar petrol and in reality youre getting at best 89% that along with 10% ethanol and a mixture of other additives (which actually INCREASE octane rating in some cases), well...yeah you get my point haha

I'm a car guy who loved chemistry in high school / college. ;) However that's good information for other members who may not know!

The first E85 pump popped up about 20mi from my house. I'm VERY excited! (AKA time to bump that compression and / or boost!)

(sorry for the OT post)
