A safe with a vending function. How it would work:

Let's say you want to use a substance in moderation and you want to ensure that you stick to that goal. You would simply lock your drugs in the safe and then they would be dispensed to you on a fixed schedule, e.g. one oxycodone pill at 8 AM each morning.

It's not perfect because its success is contingent upon having enough discipline to lock the drugs up to begin with, but it's better than nothing. Another problem is that it would have to be a bit pricey so that it was strong enough to withstand break-in attempts and drug addicts aren't apt to invest their money in things other than drugs. But it would still benefit some people.

I'm pretty sure that people already put their drugs in a timed lockbox for this purpose

Unless it's a Fort Knox tier safe a dedicated addict can likely just smash it open, or alternatively buy more drugs

One trick I've heard of is posting your drugs back to yourself on Royal Mail tracked 24, but that also costs money, and you've got to rely on RM being fit for purpose

A lot of addicts are on a tight budget.
You've invented the lock box that makes people steal.

It definitely already exists in a few different forms and is largely ineffective for most people, you need an entirely controlled environment for it to work effectively.

I'm talking about something that doesn't give you access to the main compartment until the schedule is up. It vends the drugs out to you.

I'd seen these types of time lock safes before but hadn't thought of using them for drugs. My self control was developed the hard way 😥

I could see it being useful in learning some self control. Or to space out dosing with opiates/benzos. Or to not forget you've already taken some.

Won't stop you if you need but a good reminder all the same.

Nice post for HR
🙂

just take the pills that are dispensed and save them up? i think most people with prescriptions would get on the same schedules of abusing... a device like that would help with the way some people use though.

would help people with dementia or whatever that might take their pills too often. i dunno if they have like an alexa device that reminds people about their pills yet.

just thinking some crazy shit that could evolve cause of an idea like this threads...

what if cause there are a shortage of jobs because of AI eventually, and they want to keep people on psychmeds. they could have a box like this hooked up to a computer, and it doles out your pill. some one working for the government could just watch you on a live cam to take the pill. i know they can just inject people with psychmeds, but those don't always have the same effects..... in the US and most parts of the world they don't really force people to take pills and if they do it's not for extended periods, but they could cover a lot of ground with caring for people at home with a system like that.

like i could even see them doing this with opiates cause people are gonna save them up and not use them on schedule... i think in the future, they will be more liberal about drugs though and realize they are just something people do. we don't really have to worry about a world like i'm thinking.
