Quick background: Have used for approx 5 years. IV usage for about 2 years. DOC oxycodone/heroin + fentanyl (smoked). I am a binge user, and my usage is not really the normal patteren of a daily addiction; instead of getting a fix each day I will binge for several days and spend a ton of money at one time as opposed to enough to sustain me every day. I cannot stop on my own, and coupled with my present Depression and GAD diagnosis the PAWS symptoms are making it impossible for me to not return to the needle.

Question: This is my frist time seeking treatment since I have used; I do currently have health insurance. What is the difference between a doctor that can script me suboxone or methadone and going to the methadone clinic. Obviously the clinic does not accept medical insrance; its cash only. It appears the doctor would be an easier choice, although I honestly don't know much about either.

i have a friend that is really happy with the clinic bu it's 90 a week cash and a + UA for anything will lose your take homes.

i ain't got time for silly shit like that

i got to a group therapy/doctor saurday morning every week $10 with my insurance and 50$ a month for my subs.

if you have time and can go to a clinic done is good but with me i'm super busy and saturday is about the only day i can commit to something like either of those.

plus i don't get UA'd by my doctor or any other requirements other than showing up.

I don't believe (at least not in my state) that you can get methadone prescribed from a regular doctor for maintenance purposes. You can however get it prescribed for pain. You CAN have suboxone or subutex prescribed on a regular basis from a doctor (not all doctors are able to prescribe it, you'll have to look around). If you go methadone clinic route - you'll have to go to the clinic every day (most places EVERY day, other places - everyday for a while, then eventually every week...etc.). I'd do the 'go to the doctor and get a prescription' route. The clinics are usually MUCH cheaper, though.

Check out the megathreads. There is one for methadone (MMT) and suboxone! They're both awesome.
