Since this is one of the only pages for Oxycodone I have a different (?) for ya. I had been taking, once a day mind you, 60-90mg of the oxycodone hcl 15mg tabs sooo 6 or more pills at once along with up 12-24 aleve aday,my sorry ass pain doctor didn't want to up my oxy meds, so he said I could take up to 6k mg of aleve, so after 8 months of this routine the ER gave me the drug Toradol 10mg tabs to replace the aleve, but the bad thing about the toradol, you can only take it up to 5 days then you have to be off of it for 5 days. The inbetween days are killing me. Ive been going to the ER to get shots of morphine and dilaudid. Its not that I miss the drugs, I miss not being in pain, btw I have 4 herniated disc in lower back and for some reason the doctors don't or won't operate on me till im in my 60's Im 37 so to me its like, lets do it NOW. It hurt so bad i went to ER and said my bones in my legs are hurting and I can't sleep, and to make it worse I got fired, so I'm unemployeed. So there goes cheap drugs out the window. Wished I lived in Cali so I could get pot!
Please an sugestions are welcome...but I am on about 10 different meds as well, like 3000mg of depikote

When you can, find a new surgeon. Did you ever speak with a surgeon? Orthopedic surgeon or Neurosurgeon? In my experience, when severe nerve pain is the issue from a spinal issue, you're in better hands via a neurosurgeon. That's BS re: waiting til your 60. My wife is 26 and has had 4 operations, her first at 21. Every surgery made her that much better, however there were periods where it got worse. That said, before her first one she was on the brink of suicide from the pain, and after the first surgery was worlds better. Turned her life around. Its taken a fusion and a couple of scar tissue removal surgeries to get her to where she is today though. It sounds like you're at the point where the risks are outweighed by your symptoms. Another reason why the 60+ thing doesnt make sense is the fact that your ability to heal worsens as you age. Why a surgeon wouldnt take advantage of your age in this situation doesnt add up to me. good luck.

Yea why wait till your 60? I have had one disc removed and they wanna remove another, I'm trying to avois surgery at all costs. I took advice from folks on here and decided to get the steroid injection. My doctor doesnt wanna even prescribe me percocet. he says I'm young and dont wanna get on the narcotics train, lol I wanted to tell him too late for that. hopefully this will work for me. After my surgery I was fine for a bit but then my back started hurting like hell again and I have the same problem on a disc right above it. Its a bitch. I know how it feels, probably not as bad as you however. goodluck.

Hey bud, we encourage members to start a new thread with your specific, individualized needs here in BDD. A bit different than other forums, yes, but it works quite well. Also prevents derailing someone else's thread (which if they haven't yet gotten a solid answer can pose a bit of an issue for them). No worries about that though, I wish you the best.

To the OP: Opiates are a "learned" high. It can take a while before you get to know and love the subtleties of them. Too much when you're starting out will just make you overly numb and / or sick. Be careful and enjoy. :)

I say this more and more, but opiates are an accquired taste. They are subtle even when they're intense. I always worry about "feeling" the opiate, but really there is no need to worry about it, it is effecting you. 15 mg is plenty by the way. Some people are just less likely to notice the pleasure of opiates than others. There really is a huge variation on how people respond to opiates. You take 15 mg hydro and say you don't feel a thing, I take the same and feel extremely good. My grandfather hates the feel of opiates, and my grandmother vomits and suffers severe constipation even on low doses. Some just feel kind of good. My guess is that they effect everyone more or less the same, but mindset and other drug experiences have to do a lot with personal opiate response. Advice, let the opiate roll over you, and don't expect to get "fucked up" like you would by drinking or taking a bunch of benzos or whatever.

Have you done any research to see if this is a possibility ? Is this something the doctir is telling you ?

Surgery would not cause someone to become shorter. The notion is a little ridiculous. If it were to happen, it would be a trivial amount, especially if only a single disc or two are affected. And even then, the process of the deterioration of the discs would be the cause for losing any vertical height, long before treatment. Possible treatments include a discectomy which only removes the portion of bulged disc sticking outside of the vertebral body, a laminectomy to widen specific passages in the vertebrae to allow more room for nerves, and then finally a fusion, which the disc is removed but subsequently replaced with cadaver disc/bone before being bolted together so the height is maintained if not restored.

Ok the 60's plus thing, the doctors, at the time, said they didn't know much about back surgery, this was like 7years ago. The shorter thing, I thought if they removed the cushy stuff from between the discs and fused them together that it would make you shorter.
