A Cotton Question for IV Users

tampons contain some kinda gel that absorbs moisture
...at least that is what the FDA regulation tag says...
but you know I could be wrong since I'm a guy...
 
well...i dont really think tampons are best, but if you got the "natural" ones, or at least deffinately unscented...they *might* be okay...but i still dont think its best...
 
WTF? Why should I tell you why not to use tampons? Why should I explain why not to use cigeratte filters? IS IT THAT HARD TO BUY A BOX OF Q-TIPS? YOU CAN GET THEM AT ANY GAS-STATION .. I read an article on the tampon thing (as to the specific reason why you should't use them .. but really, I have lost intrest in trying to convince people... use whatever the fuck you want, I just don't see why when you're taking chances with injecting drugs into your veins, you can't use the proper shit.. hell, you have to go buy the needles? Why not pickup cotton swaba/q-tips then? Or shit, on the way home, stop at your habib mart and buy a mini box for like $.95 ..
 
when i first started i used any strile kind of cotton balls, then as time went on i went to strileizing the filters of *unused* cigarettes, i soke the ends in alcohol for a day and then dry them for a day then jst put then in a bag and use them when the time comes. they work better for getting more drawin in to the spike kuz there more compact then jst ragular cotton balls.
 
So, insted of buying a bag of cotton balls from the store, you insted seperate the filters from cigarettes, take all the time to soak them all in alcohol? When I use cotton I lose maybe 1-5 units. I'm really losing money by using cotton huh? Plus, as unreal as the risk may be, I'd still rather not risk injecting fibers from the fiber glass into my bloodstream. Just my .02 cents.
 
I shot dope for close to 20 years and the only
filter I used was a tiny piece of a clean,premium
cigaret filter. NON-menthol. Menthol cigs have the fibreglass. If you pull piece of cotton into
your fit,and inject it into your bloodstream, your
liver will break it down into a chem that will make you sick as hell. ie Cotton Fever. Ive been there. Hav'nt had a shot in 10 years. I lost a lot of friends that route. For a lot of people, it is indeed a highway to hell.

Cotton fever is not caused by getting cotton in your blood stream. I've not read anything that says your liver metabolises cotton into anything harmful. However I have been wrong in the past, and I'm going to be wrong many more times before I die. So if you would be so kind as to show me a legitimate source, I would love to review it.

I'm sure cotton makes you sick as hell if you shoot it into your bloodstream.
But cotton being assorbed by the liver making you sick as hell? No way. Most Americans are surrounded by cotton fabrics, from their bed sheets to clothes. Think of the size of a cotton fiber that would get into your vein. You utwittingly ingest little fibers like that all day just by breathing. They all end up in your liver. Nobody gets sick from it.
 
The size of a piece of cotton that would be drawn into the rig would be tiny, and your body probably wouldnt even notice.. but given the way cotton is "warapped" on the swab, there is only long strands, not small cotton particles.. if rolled properly, your filter shouldn't release any particles at all.. if anything you would draw up a loose strand, which you should be able to see in the barrel of the syringe (you ALWAYS want to look in the barrel of the syringe to see if there are any particles/strands/etc .. anything big enough you visibly see could do you some real damage if injected into a vein...
 
I don't get the whole using a cig filter as a filter. That to me is a waste of a perfectly good cig. I mean how hard is it to go to the store and by a 99 cent bag of cotton balls. I don't see the logic there. Cigarettes cost way too much to be wasting them. But that's just me.

Ive basically always used cig filters, with almost no problems, except when I would be a junked out fiend sick as a dog and stuck with 100's of cottons, so doing a rinse I caught a bad headache off those that lasted all day and it was extremely unconfortable. As for the reason cig filters are used often is availability. If I have a bag of dope and I want to get high I am not going to go the the store or my home to get some q-tips, I am going to shoot my dope now. No I never carried around my cool chic heroin kit that has all my works in it, thats some lame shit when kids want to be junkies and parade the fact in front of the public... there almost worse than computer gEEks. On a closing note Camel cig use an all cotton filter, but I did use a q-tip to bang my crack tonite while laying in the hot tub, in fact time to move on to some nice easy going smack and watch "Wonder Years" or something
 
Like me mate Deus said - why not carry some cotton swabs? I mean, what do you carry your rigs in? Do you carry a spoon? Those "chic dope kits" are practical... they keep yer shit together in a clean place.. but I guess the hardend junkies don't care and just carry one rig in their sock and find an empty beer can in the garbage to cook in a street cornor somewhere....
C'mon, IV drug use shouldn't be taken as a joke like this.. yeah, the body can take a lot more then you think, but reduce the risk every chance you get!
 
Phreex - those "chic dope kits" are LAME, and an arrest waiting to happen, the less parphinalia (sp?) the better, even the most newbie drug user knows that. Having just a rig on you is much safer than some of those kits the "kool" kids have. Do you know how easy it is to hid a rig, easy but a blackened spoon, wad of q-tips, extra rigs, baggies, foils, dope, all in the same wrap package is just plain stupid. Do you want kids to get arrested. Whats wrong with a tin can, Oh let me guess its sooooo much more sanitary than a old spoon, um yea sure. Why not use a bottle cap, if a tin can is to "junky" for you. I guess it just looks cool whippin out your hardend cool ass dope glass raver spoon. Get a clue... needle, bottle cap, cig filter (fuck throw in your damn q-tips instead if you really think its that big of deal, which its not) = no evidence once you fix just throw it out the window. The bottom line is safety who wants to get arrested with dope and the more gear you have the more chances you are to get caught. I thought this was a HARM REDUCTION site, or is it what you see HARM REDUCTION as?
And who is taking IV drug use as a joke ? ? ?
um not me. Take a look at this post and tell me its not harm reduction to carry the least amount of gear, its common sense. jeeeez
