I have been forced to take Invega Sustenna for almost a year and am now trying to deal with its horrible side effects after having stopped it 3 months ago. I have been searching online for more information about coming off this drug and have found this:

https://www.mediguard.org/medication/side-effects/invegasustenna

Look for a poster name Sukilena Quin. She posted complaining about Invega Sustenna side effects, about how it is similar to latex poisoning, and suicide. That post was from 2012.

This is an article I found that happened just earlier this year:

http://blogs.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/2013/05/sukilena_quin_fire.php

A 66 year old woman by the name of Sukilena Quin from San Fransico was killed in an apartment fire set by herself.

I did a bit more digging and found that this was indeed her.

I am scared. I am also going through some really nasty side effects of this horrible drug and I am losing hope.

I tried that for 3 months. The psyche ward ( outpatient/inpatient at times ) staff had recommended it, and finally started taking it. My Moms a practitioner, and I am versed in groups everywhere that DO NOT like aggressive pushing of drugs especially under the care of a Psyche-. Psychiatric aliments aren't even a disease unless your grandparents/parents have been "autopsied" and then you have to get into things like "proof" and I guess in my case its gonna be "my grandmother was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic during the Korean war due to commie anti-spiritualist war propaganda". Its sheeit. Bitch couldn't even speak a bit of Korean, just watched a ton of that hit tv show MASH.
So, I do not have it either. If it is a blood borne pathogen, then because my parents were never diagnosed with it the only route you could take is that they were never diagnosed with it properly by a crack team of specialists at a Facility and then I would have a 8% chance of having it ( proof would be on a MRI brain scan ) and then they would be dead because the autopsy would have taken place and their brain sliced into pieces.

Im sorry to take so long, but in my case I wasn't being forced to take Invega sustenna. I might have been trying to persuade my new psychiatrist to prescribe me the anxiety and recreational drugs that were taken away from me.

Im just afraid to ask you who is forcing you.

It does not take a genius to figure out that Paliperidone is nothing like latex poisoning and did not cause the symptoms she described. Also the bit about the fluorine atom and i quote
The Fluorine Atom at the center of I-S interacts with all metals, such as those leeching out of bad teeth. LATEX POISONNING IS THE ISSUE
is of course bullshit. It also appears that Invega is responsible for her spelling it as I-S 8) . There is nothing at all new about paliperidone. All paliperidone is is the active metabolite of risperidone which was approved by the FDA back in 94. It has the same binding affinity as risperidone does and the same side effects. Another name for paliperidone is 9-hydroxyrisperidone.

Obviously she had mental issues that where not treated adequately. Invega does not cause people to set themselves on fire if that was the case here as it could have just as easily have been a case of a arsonist getting killed by their own fire. There is no ruling there on whether she tried to kill herself or just torch the place to get insurance money or something. We also don't know if she was on Invega sustenna at the time as she could have just as easily have stopped taking the drug. Or perhaps they aren't even the same person. So you are jumping to conclusions here to say the least.

But we do know that having a severe mental illness such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia and leaving it untreated is pretty much sure to end in disaster. I have never taken Paliperidone but i have taken risperidone for long periods of time at doses of anywhere from 1-4mg's a day. I think the most i have ever had to take in the run of a day is 6mg's i think. Can the side effects of risperidone and paliperidone suck? Yes they can for sure. But being unmedicated sucks much much worse for me that's for sure. Also it's not like Invega is the only anti-psychotic out there or Invega sustenna being the only long acting injection. There is Risperdal Consta along with many typical anti-psychotics that are available in depot injection forms such as clopixol, Fluphenazine, Haldol off the top of my head.

I know how script happy shrinks can be though i have to say most doctors here don't like prescribing anti-psychotics for off label purposes like they do in the US and for bipolar disorder they tend to want to try valproate (trade names epival, epilem, depakote), Lithium or lamotrigine before they try a anti-psychotic. Unless you are suffering from a acute manic or mixed state episode that is in which case a fast acting anti-psychotic can literally be a life saver. But despite the often very exaggerated horror stories i don't think anti-psychotics are that bad. I have taken seroquel, risperidone, zyprexa, methotrimeprazine aka Levomepromazine (trade name Nozinan), Largactil aka good ol Thorazine and i think i have also had prochlorperazine (trade names Stemetil, compazine) in injection form a few times along with a opiate like Demerol or morphine for migraines or the trigeminal neuralgia pain i have.

After reading the scaremonger stories on certain sites about psych meds and especially anti-psychotics i was almost afraid to start taking the seroquel my doctor prescribed to me. But as i found out it was just scaremongering and despite the sometimes awful side effects that they can cause the benefit of these drugs far outweigh the negatives in my opinion atleast.

Good post. I totally agree with you. I dug more into her case and found her blog and facebook and realized that she was indeed in a very difficult place mentally.

I will continue to try to have hope in recovering from Invega Sustenna. I haven't even reach the end of the half life point yet so I guess I should try to stay more calm than I am now.

Cheers :)

Yeah i could tell by her post there that she was indeed pretty far gone. A likely scenario is that she went off her meds and had her original symptoms come back with interest. I have had that happen and it's brutal.

Out of curiosity have you tried wellbutrin? As far as anti-depressants go it's pretty mild side effect wise and is not addictive unlike the SSRI's and SNRI's which can produce brutal withdrawal symptoms. The reason why i mention wellbutrin is that it's a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor and is somewhat stimulating despite the fact that it has the lowest chance of causing mania out of any of the more popular anti-depressants. It does help anhedonia alot for me as i rarely get that when i am taking bupropion. So it might be worth a shot if you haven't taken it already.
