I have taken a blend of Kratom on and off over the last couple of years for a variety of reasons. The one I had used was sold as "UEI". However, with my most recent use (and earlier uses too), I noticed side effects that I wouldn't have expected. One is ringing in the ears that increased with increased dosage. The most disturbing effect was heart palpitations. It made me think to do a little research.

There's not a whole lot on these "enhanced" kratom products, but the citation below was really revealing, and explained a lot. It's common to add a derivative of tramadol to these powered preparations. Wtf. Read the toxicology report done in Sweden on 9 people who died. Come to your own conclusions--I've come to mine. No more will I ever take the enhanced kratom, and probably not the straight leaves as well.

Oh wow that's insane. 9 deaths?! And those are only the documented ones in Sweden alone... wow. I knew Kratom could be lethal but I didn't know it was that crazy. I have a jar of it in my room and this thread has inspired me to throw it out. I was going to use it for dope withdrawals, but fuuuuck that lol. I don't trust it.

BTW this is probably better Other Drugs material :)

Stick to plain leaf and you should have no problems,also stick with a trusted vendor.With Kratom itself there should be no problems with fatal overdoses and death,it`s the shit people mix it with or cut it with.

IMO Kratom is very safe.
 
It's really bad blaimin' kratom for theese deaths! That's why kratom is illegal in sweden right now 'cause people are bein' so ignorant!
The krypton kratom blend that killed nine persons in sweden contained big amounts of O-desmethyl-Tramadol. It was really strong, an' therefore alot of folks OD:ed on it!
 
Maaaan, that's surely the biggest trash i've read in months - Kratom OD's! You'd rather puke your guts out than overdosing on plain leaf/powdered Kratom, so WTF? Kratom is not IMO safe, it is safe to an extent where it's impossible to die unless you ingest REALLY ridiculous amounts, which are as said, almost impossible to ingest.

To all of you wanting to get rid of your kratom, give it to me!

As mentioned earlier, it's not the pure Kratom per se, it's the shit they add to the powder varieties that you need to be concerned with. And you can't tell what you really have. All my bottle says is it's a "proprietary blend", not revealing what's in the mix. And no, I won't give you what I have left nor to anyone else. I love my fellow bl'rs more than that. Keep in mind too that this Sweden report is a rarity; Kratom and its blends are on very few radars. So please consider it seriously, and don't dismiss it just because Kratom issues have not been reported elsewhere.

One final thought and it's total speculation on my part, but peeps around here have reported wd's on "Kratom", but I believe these wd's come from the fukkin tramadol, which wd's have been fully documented elsewhere.

I hope at least that I have raised some awareness in my posting on this, 'cause I was pretty naive myself about Kratom--before I was having unexplained problems.
 
I hop this doesn't start the wave of kratom bannings from the USA. Though I can't get high on that shit anymore (I was taking like an oz at once to get some decent effects before my tolerance grew even more).
 
If you're having a reliable trusted source you don't have to worry about unwanted ingredients in your kratom.

And Kratom WDs are of course possible, not because of added substances but daily/regular use.

truth...my vendor is on point...and i feel like with kratom ( as opposed to oxy ) is that i dont really feel the need to do it days in a row
 
Did the deaths in Sweden include seizures? I scanned (albeit quickly) the cited journal article, and it seems like most of the victims were found dead in their homes.. Tramadol and its metabolite o-desmethyltramadol can lower your seizure threshold right? I guess it was the combination of both o-desmethyltramadol and kratom that caused the high number of fatalities, but it seems like there were ridiculous amounts of the 'cut/additive' in this case.

Is the only method of finding a trusted, reliable source (without asking around) trial and error? I'd love to have a honest vendor on hand, but I'm afraid due to the nature of their business that many of them are not so.. on-point.

I could not find ANY list of vendors, certified or not. Looks like they have good intentions, but no vendor has signed up as yet or they publish it elsewhere (I could not find any, if there is a list, please post the link.) Maybe site too new?? It does appear though, that they have a lot of other info on Kratom that's helpful.
 
Afaik only Tramadol itself lowers the seizure threshold, oxy-desmethyltramadol, the metabolite in Kryptom Kratom, doesn't.

I took quite large doses of KK when it was still available here, so my guess would be simple ODs, nothing seizure related. Fuck em for not publishing more detailed info.

Skirting the lines of sourcing, I'd suggest doing your own research and order samples of the premium commercial stuff from different vendors. Really, stick to plain powdered commercial leaf, the extracts are all overpriced BS or aldulterated with other stuff.

A certified Vendor has an certificate which normally should be displayed on their homepage. Mine has it.
 
Welcome to the interwebs, this report has been known for ages.
And i doubt it's common to add o-dt to kratom, since there's nobody producing it any more.
 
Kratom is incredibly benign in the form of plain leaf. All known "overdoses" are from kratom that's been adulterated with O-desmethyltramadol. Like others have said, if you're getting plain leaf from legit ethnobotanical vendors then everything is fine.
