I have done quite a bit of research on this and still cannot come to a conclusion on whether this is way too much for a first time. I went through about 2 ounces of kratom last month but i think the tolerance to opioids is long gone. So i'd like to know from some of the more experienced morphine users whether 60mg of morphine sulfate sustained release is too much for someone with no tolerance. I'm planning on eating it not shooting it or snorting it. I have read the bio-availability is rather low and that it compares to about 40mg oxycodone in analgesic properties, but i think that the conversion only matters if it were instant release.

The only thing i am really worried about is respiratory depression and whether it will be pronounced at such a high level of morphine. I've snorted about 1 and a half blues a long time ago and had no problems and the biggest oral dose of a pain killer i've taken was 25mg of hydrocodone and experienced some nodding. I know morphine is more sedating that's why i'm worried about the respiratory depression.

Any advice is welcome thanks!

If you never taken morphine before you should not take more than 30 mgs even if it's SR. You can always redose but it's always possible to be hypersensitive to morphine and because of that I would play it safe. Generally that is not anywhere near lethal dose of morphine.

I also have a very low tolerance to opiates and i just did 75mg of morphine orally ( extended release) today and i gotta say it wasnt in any way too much but i got a nice feeling. The only reason it wont be too strong is because only 30% of that dose is getting into your bloodstream which means you arent really taking 60mg but more like 20.

Go for it but dont expect a very strong high...

That's too much.

How is 60mg oral extended release morphine too much, you gotta be joking right.
As we all know only 30% gets absorbed which means he wont even be feeling 60mg but more like 20mg of morphine.
20mg morphine extended release is definitely not too much...

If it's ER only 10mg gets released per hour right? Or maybe I'm mixing that up...
I would do 30mg though. When I was new to opiates that was a good amount for me.

well if you have no tolerance, than you dont know how opioids will generally effect you at certain doses, and with something as strong as morphine is not to be messed with if you dnt even know what feeling to expect from that dose, because its one of the more dangerous opioids.

i would think that it would be safe at that dose orally without tolerance but thats based on my own knowledge of what my body can take, which can vary greatly to your body's tolerance to psychoactives. i would try to take something weaker, like hydrocodone or oxycodone to gauge what kind of dose you will be able to take of the morphine. when you have found your oxy dose, go to the Opioid Conversion Chart to figure out your safe dose.

I appreciate you all taking your time to respond. I did decide to take the 60mg all at once and i was a little underwhelmed. The biggest effect i felt from the pill was the anxiety i had before it kicked in. When it kicked in i didn't really feel a buzz like with oxycodone instead i became tired and a little dizzy. Had a histamine reaction on my chest and it became red for about 1 hour despite taking an anti histamine earlier. Couple hours into the morphine i smoked some cannabis and i felt like i was tripping on some shrooms(got really uncomfortable and very disoriented i was walking to my car and felt like my legs were gonna give way). The morphine really synergized with the cannabis. I couldn't move for about an hour after smoking which isn't usual for me so i can tell the morphine had something to do with it. Overall i felt high (on the cannabis blunt) for 7 hours and i could tell it wasn't the morphine i was feeling but the cannabis which is a little weird because i usually sober up after a couple hours after smoking a blunt.

I got all the side effects of morphine without any real morphine high. Overall i would not recommend anyone taking this much morphine as i am a rather heavy individual and perhaps that is why i didn't feel as much of a high with that much morphine. If i had to compare it to oxycodone it felt like 7.5mg of oxy.

I think morphine has to be plugged at least. It's a huge waster otherwise.
