Authorities say a lost-luggage handler ran an Ecuador-to-New York City smuggling ring that disguised drugs in chocolates and cocaine-soaked scuba diving certificates.

They allege 39-year-old Jorge Guerrero (guh-REHR'-oh) arranged to ship innocent-looking but drug-laden packages on cargo planes from Guayaquil, Ecuador, to New York's Kennedy Airport.

Guerrero, his wife and four others pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and other charges Tuesday. His lawyer said none of the seized drugs were recovered from Guerrero's home.

Seized shipments included sugar and oatmeal cookies packed atop a pound of cocaine, chocolate candies laced with half a pound of heroin and a stack of diving course diplomas that had been drenched in more than three pounds of cocaine, which was apparently to be extracted later.

I saw this today on my phone, I never like it when ppl use candy.....aside from the usual media frenzy, there is a real possibility that it could be misplaced and end up on a shelf.

Can I has some them chocolates plz.

A warm blanket and a sweet tasty snack, that's my American Dream (it's okay, I have some of that tolerance crap they talk about - I've been married thrice and I'm still alive and well, give me some credit).

there was a dea micorgram bulletin from years ago when they busted ppl doing the same thing with the candy, either covering it in chocolate, or disguising it as another piece of candy. i think those were lollipops in the buletin, never ceases to amaze what smugglers will come up with. the heroin shoe soles was a clever one.
