Hey guys, can taking 5htp potentially raise your liver enzyme levels on your liver function tests? Reason that I am asking is because I have a blood test next week and my doc wants them to be in the normal range so we can continue with taking nardil and move up in dosage. Ive been dealing with social anxiety ocd and from past experience i know nardil at the right dose will completly handle that, however i cannot deny that 5htp has been extremly helpful to me and fo the first time in a while im able to be somewhat functional, and that means a lot to me. But at the end of the day my lft has to be normal so please can anyone help me out?

It shouldn't - it's just an amino acid. Some 5HTP is already present in your diet anyway.

Be cafeful mixing drugs like 5htp and MAOI's like nardil, you can get into trouble there. Serotonin syndrome and/or "tyrosine cheese syndrome" are possibilities.

This is not really advanced discussion.

Well it's possible if you're using herbal sourced 5HTP that perhaps a contaminant could cause liver issues. But, I can't see this causing issues unless you're eating grams of it a day.

Also, Nardil+5HTP= I'm pretty surprised you're still alive. Just keep things the way they are and talk to your doctor.

^ Seriously? I don't think 5htp and EtOH are a winning combination either. Not nearly as dangerous as 5htp with Nardil. But not exactly safe either.
