5ht6- music and low serotonin levels

^ An increase or decrease in the level of a neurotransmitter can greatly change a person's behaviour. A person's behaviour causes neuroplasticity, and this reinforces this behaviour, even after the stimulus (serotonin) is removed. For examle, after being on SSRIs (after, during was hell but it did make me much more empathic) I gained far more empathic outlook on life.

This is ironic, because generally a behaviour change is the result of a conscience decision on a person's part. The premise then is that neurones that fire together wire together. As such, when you start consciously change your behaviour, you will have new different sets of neurones firing together, which will then wire together. WIRE in this instance, refers to increased expression of receptors and increased synaptic release of neurotransmitters.

Looks like we are cheating nature here people. Do some meditation!

I've experienced this myself. After going on tramadol (mostly from the SNRI effect) for a very long period of time, my behaviour has changed dramatically. Doesn't go back to the same old me if I go off. Maybe laughing/smiling and other things are easier, but my brain has just re-wired itself to act like I normally did on tramadol, but also because of my social standing. I'm very calm.. used to have bad anxiety, get nervous easily, physically tense (even lead to pelvic myoneuropathy), i'm also more energetic and pretty much free from pain and suffering. I don't have strong emotions and thus no urge to express them unless I make a conscious decision to do so. Nor do I have excessive thoughts/worries. Theirs also the much lesser desire for novelty or anything even food, sex or using the bathroom... Like i'm content to just watch life pass by.

i also found tramadol usefully calmed my (excessive and often life wrecking) emotions to levels that although others would not called mild i found could finally be controlled. i found the absence of extreme paranoia the one single thing that make it a genuinely effective antidepressant for MY bipolar (clearly it is not an indicated treatment for bipolar and could make it much worse) at a dose of 150mg in the morning daily then no more. ssri's never calmed paranoia they made me not care about even though it grew more intense (i just lacked any opinion at all).
