I've read that tobacco contains MAOI's and was wondering why it is that when smokers take 5-HTP they don't develop serotonin syndrome. Is it because the MAOI is sufficiently weak? Is there, in fact, something going on but at relatively safe levels? What prompted this train of thought was that for the last couple of months I've been using Rhodiola Rosea, which has been found to inhibit MAO-A and B, with 5-HTP and noticed that I was experiencing some symptoms of SS (headaches, hypomania, mild confusion). So what's the difference between Rhodiola Rosea and Tobacco in this aspect?
