So I have decided to try and stay away from going back to the use of SSRI's and take a more natural (I think) approach to treating anxiety. I dont have any depression at all, in fact I am quite the happy person. But I suffer from anxiety in certain situations, which in turn, drives me mad.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to take St johns wort and 5htp to help with anxiety, and what the results are.

I take in the morning a swisse mens multi vitamin (with minerals), 2 strong fish oil capsules, ginko balboa and a serc tablet (for tinnitus). In the night I have a night time multi vitamin, 2 strong fish oil capsules, tebonin (concentrated ginko for tinnitus) and another serc tablet which I also take 1 in the afternoon. Will any of these have interfere with the 5htp or st johns wort?

I also exercise every day and go running every second day. To be honest I live the healthiest lift style possible with the occasional dabble in recreational drugs. Plus I dont drink.

Much help would be appreciated from people in similar situations or people that have tried this approach. If this does not work then I guess I have no other choice other then to go back on my SSRI (cymbalta) which I know worked. The only thing that is keeping me away from taking this stuff is that it made me numb and not really give a shit about much. Also I get sick when I take it, so I would have to start on a very slow dose and slowly increase :(

peace x

Yeah, I like Kava a lot. Some people I know find it more effective than benzos. Some don't though. I like it in the afternoon. You can vary the dose between 250mg to 1g to suit your needs. I get 250mg caps of the ground up root.

i mite go down to the store and give it ago. I have a temazapam prescription but its so short lived. Maybe even a stronger benzo would help. But I know in the long run they are
not the best

As far as I'm aware ginko interacts with st johns wort, I went into a hypo-manic episode after combining wort ginko and ginseng. It was a lot of fun until the worrying symptoms started (chest pains. muscle twitches etc)

Wow that does not sound good at all. I'll have to look into that. The kava kava is apparently toxic to the liver :s
