The day was October 18, 2014. I’d bought an eighth of dried Amazonian Cubensis mushrooms and planned to take them this afternoon, alone in my apartment, for the first time, seeing as how I had nothing better to do that day. I was deliberating as to whether to just eat half of them or just down the whole eighth and enjoy the ride. Decided to just eat them all around 4PM...listened to some Radiohead while waiting for something to happen.
Around 35 minutes after dropping, I could already feel something coming on. I wasn’t tripping yet, just a weird sort of high, as if I’d smoked some weird weed or something. This sensation got slowly stronger and stronger, building up into a sort of ticklish body sensation, sort of like acid’s tickly body high yet very different. At the same time it felt almost like my body was heavy, almost like it was turning into water or something - the polar opposite of LSD where I typically feel jittery, like I have to be moving around, during the plateau and peak of my trips.
At about the 1 hour mark, my first CEVs were coming in – I remember they looked just like Egyptian heiroglyphs, I’ve seen those same visuals occasionally from subsequent shroom trips and read that a lot of people actually see them during the come-up. I decided for some odd reason that a bath would be a good thing to do during my trip, so I dragged myself off the couch, went into the bathroom, started the water going – and the sound of the water gushing from the tap came in all distorted, echoing in a weird way. The tub seemed to take forever to fill up as my time perception was slowing down while my trip continued to get stronger.
Finally the tub was full, I got in, and felt immensely relaxed. Whenever I would gently close my eyes I would see that usual orange eyelid glow suddenly change colors, from red to purple to bright pink, with some visuals that I thought looked like cells in a microscope or something. As I laid there I felt completely at one with the water in the bathtub. I thought about how amazing water was, the elixir of life, covering 70% of the Earth’s surface, peaceful and flowing, nurturing. For about half an hour I just laid there swimming in a sea of colors with my eyes closed, enjoying the trip and thinking about water.
After a little while, I got out of the tub, drained the water, and walked back to my bed, where I laid down for awhile. By now I was seeing OEVs – the walls and floor rippled as if they were liquid, and various geometric patterns were forming on my white bedroom door. Closing my eyes I saw plants growing and flowers coming out of nowhere. Then through the buzzing sound in my ears I heard the sound of birds chirping and animal-like calls, giving me the feeling I was in the jungle. And then for the next hour or so I was just thinking about the jungle, and how it was symbolic of my personality in so many ways I never would’ve thought while sober:
-Peaceful, yet also internally conflicted (like all the jungle animals)
-Unique in many ways compared to temperate forests (I've always been kind of a misunderstood loner)
-More or less the ideal temperature for me (I’ve never liked very cold or very hot weather personally)
-Even the irony of many ancient jungle cultures tripping on mushrooms since they grow so well in tropical climates
Even though it felt like my mind was racing at 1,000 mph, I felt very much in control of it throughout the whole trip – for instance I never got stuck in any thought loops, I could go as deep or as shallow as I wanted to, or even just turn off my mind completely and enjoy the visuals – which was a very pleasant experience.
About 4-5 hours after eating the shrooms, the visuals were finally disappearing, but I still had a lot of the body sensations and distorted trains of thought, and I suddenly realized that I was HUNGRY. There wasn’t much in terms of food left for me to eat, and I still felt very lethargic, so I thought to myself, “I’m in no condition to drive…” and decided to order Chinese Food delivery from this restaurant I had never tried before. I remember thinking to myself, “If this was acid, I’d probably stupidly be getting in the car and driving to the grocery store, and then having some deep psychological conversation with the sexy-looking cashier!”
Anyway, I was able to work through the website just fine, and built up an order based on whatever food “sounded good” to me at the time for whatever reason, for instance one of the items I remembered getting was called “Empire Shrimp” which turned out to be a fairly simple shrimp dish in a special sauce, but I laughed at the name so hard at the time while tripping because it made me think of Star Wars.
By the time my Chinese food arrived the trip was coming to an end, but I ate a little of everything in my order, and enjoyed everything for what it was. I put the rest of it in the fridge for later (especially all that white rice that came with each of my items), and then began to contemplate what my trip meant, and everything that I had seen…
Anyway, so that was my first experience tripping on shrooms, and I figured I just had to post it on here for others to read about. Since then I’ve done shrooms at least 10 more times, and while not every trip has been as “good” as this one, I still have yet to have a “bad trip” on them, have had plenty of new epiphanies, and would say they’re probably one of my current favorite drugs overall. Main downside I would say is the taste…but you can always just powder them and put them into empty capsules.
