2ct7/2ct2 - indistinguishable?

I just ran through the new Mecke and Simon's reagent tests with some 2ct2 and 2ct7.
Both 2ct2 and 2ct7 tested exactly the same with all reagents.
While the instructions which come along with them indicate that the test is for 2ct7, it would appear that is for either.
...
OR, my test samples are wrong and I've got 2CT7 in both samples. Can someone else repeat this test with another 2ct2 sample to confirm we get the same results?
Thanks.
[Aside: The dropper on the Mecke and Marquis reagent are excellent -- the Simon's droppers are quite inferior.]

Has nothing to do with your question but the DS DB does not show a single 2-ct7 pill.
Makes me wonder why they added 2-ct7 to the colorchart ? Can't find any 2-ct7 info on DS either except for a discussion thread...
2-ct2 was available legally in The Netherlands until 2 (?) years ago. Tried it, disliked it.
Maybe 2ct7 and 2ct2 behave like MDMA and MDEA when tested, which means you won't be able to tell the difference.
Anyone a more scientific/chemical explanation ?

Hey SeeAJuggler-
You bring up a good point.
Do you know what exactly the mecke reagent is? I can probably figure it out for sure if you know what the reagent is...
BUT...
The difference between 2CT7 and 2CT2 is that the 2CT7 has a propthiol (C3H7-S-) and 2CT2 has a eththiol (C2H5-S-) bonded to the phenyl ring.
This means that the test will probably give similar but not nessessarly the same results - they are definately different compounds
It is unlikely that the Mecke reaget could distinguish between those two differences. BUT it is possible that they give different results.
I believe that this is similar to the MDMA/MDA/MDE compounds giving similar reactions to the same reagent. You can see that the compunds only differ by an alkyl group, but the same reaction occurs. This is because the reagent is reacting with the part of the molecule that is the same...
(ie the Marquis reagent attacks the 5 membered ring of the MDxx - not the nitrogen, where the difference lies)
If you find out what the Mecke reagent is tell me and i'll try to figure out whats going on

I did try with the Marquid reagent, and, indeed, the 2ct2 was slightly less orange, a little more pink, than the 2ct7, but I am certain that if I tested it ALONE, i.e. without a known comparison sample, it would be hard to tell. In this case, I assumed the color difference was due to the fact that I had a slightly smaller sample of the 2, and thus had less color change....
Thanks for all the comments!

Our Simon's reagent does not react to 2ct2. I still had some 2ct2 from ConsciousDreams lying around from 2 years ago when it was still legally available in The Netherlands. No fun by the way %-(
It hardly produces a reaction with Marquis either but keep in mind that these tablets are 2 years old.
I'll test some 2ct2 again when I have some Mecke ;-)
