2c-x & Free Radicals

yeah, i'd imagine the enzyme inhibition probably takes at least 15-20mins to occur, if not longer. There's a fair amount of research on the subject & i believe there's an Ask Erowid response about it

Culpepper you do not have any idea what you are talking about... what, you think taking antioxidants will HURT you??? You think it will not help block neurotoxicity which it has been demonstrated is CAUSED by free-radicals?
I have never said anything to that effect. All I said was that it was a bad article - I never took a stance on the question of phenethylamines and free radicals.

OK, I guess i read your remarks hastily, and I do apologize for being testy and hyper-critical (it's a bad tendency I have for which I am sorry). Best wishes to you Culpeppers, please dont let my jerkiness dissuade you from expressing your opinions here.

Here is my 2cents.

In my opinion, blue berries are one of the number one things to use to help ease the neurotoxcitiy of amphetamines and phenethylamines. They and are extremely high in antioxidants hence they are sometimes refered to as natures antioxidant. Eating some blue berries before had can be very beneficial, In my opinion. Also when my appetite returns i always snack on them. They contain such compounds as Anthocyanin and various other phytochemicals which attack free radicals.

Especially in wild species, blueberries contain anthocyanins, other antioxidant pigments and various phytochemicals possibly having a role in reducing risks of some diseases, including inflammation and certain cancers.

I know this is unrelated to antioxidants but I'm going to mention it for harm reductions sake. Milk is one of the best things you can drink before you sleep/while you are coming down, in my opinion. Milk has high levels of l-tryptophan which is a very important amino acid. L-tryptophan can be synthesized into serotonin in the brain.

It is particularly plentiful in chocolate, oats, dried dates, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, red meat, eggs, fish, poultry, sesame, chickpeas, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, spirulina, and peanuts.

When l-tryptophan enters the brain It is convererted into 5-hydroxy-tryptophan via aromatic amino acid decarboxylase and then into serotonin by N-actyl transferase.

...tryptophan functions as a biochemical precursor for the following compounds. Serotonin (a neurotransmitter), synthesized via tryptophan hydroxylase...

These are only recommendations and as always YMMV. I'm a bit of a biochemistry nerd I'm going into my 3rd year.

Pre-loading 5-HTP for MDMA isnt that REALLY bad advice ? a sure way for serotonin syndrome!?

Note that that article specifically refers to stimulant and empathogen PEAs, which act by different mechanisms than psychedelic PEAs, are taken in larger doses - and all his examples have a 3 carbon chain, rather than a 2-carbon chain. I'm not sure how relevant it is. That said, getting enough antioxidants is a good thing in general.

I think the whole theory of "free radicals" and "antioxidants" has been proved to be complete horseshit. Your body will handle all this by itself. Eating carrots won't "protect" you from "free-radicals". Read Ben Goldacres "Bad science" article about free radicals.
