2024 US Presidential Election

The alien entity fed off negative energy and through it's evil machinations caused everybody to be at each other's throats. The more they fought it while fighting amongst themselves, the stronger it got. They only defeated it by laughing at it and blowing it off.

Just sayin'

Do you really mean it btw?

i wouldn't go quite as far as jasperkent but it was a great speech.

there are people here on bl who have said that, for them, trump is the greatest public speaker. i respect their opinion but i just can't agree. for me, he's truly awful, stumbles with pronunciation of simple names, tries to fake cadence by just repeating the same idea in different ways, tries to fake understanding and knowledge by just repeating the same idea in different ways, etc.

but, as with everything, ymmv.

^^^ Trump's a snake oil salesman. A carny. Take your pick.

I find that he has a soothing voice that rambles in a way I imagine feels comforting to people who have many stresses that their mind rambles through day-to-day. The sort of random thoughts that you have, that you don't necessarily turn into beliefs or attitudes, but that emerge in reaction to an event. You see reports of a crime and you have a thought about it, you notice something that seems unfair in your day-to-day that goes unnoticed while other issues generate conversation - he will ramble through those things in a sort of meandering stream of consciousness that is almost pacifying.

I think he honestly speaks the language of folks with altered thought patterns, something that drug use can contribute to, just as it contributes to participating on bluelight. I have closed my eyes and envisioned the thoughts of someone who is quietly suffering in a world that feels unfamiliar and unsafe, and I have put his rambling monologues into the minds of that type of person, and it seems to fit. And it's soothing, and calm, in a way that makes you want to be liked by him. It's also soothing in a way that allows him to say truly awful things, but he rarely gets agitated. He can calmly talk about the various problems that politically correct people struggle to articulate through 'woke' speech.

His values, however, are inherently selfish and self-serving. He looks down upon the very people he speaks so eloquently to, and he manipulates media through outrage to curate a discussion on his terms. His awful words, while soothing in tone, are destructive in execution, so there is a disconnect between his words and the actions that people take upon hearing them. It's hypnotic.

....man, they had a chance to dump this guy after 2020 and after jan 6th but they blew it and i think they'll be paying the price for a while to come...

There are quite a few Republicans and ex-Republicans who are supporting the Harris/Walz ticket. Some spoke at the DNC. They all say that they are putting patriotism above party in this race. Those who haven't completely given up on the GOP are saying we don't support her policies but a Harris Presidency will give us 4 years to regroup, rebuild, and re-establish the party as one of Conservatism rather than Trumpism.

Can you elaborate?
I had just finished listening when I posted that rave review, so I might have been a bit hyperbolic in my elated state. Part of that is because of the contrast with her opponent, who is constantly saying that America is just a dangerous shithole.

I still think it was an A+ speech in that she expressed everything that Americans need to hear right now. It really pumped me up and reminded me of why I love my country. Yes, this Hippiebilly is also a patriot and damn proud of it! I also felt she demonstrated that she is capable, competent, strong, and determined-- and that she's in this for all the right reasons.

I didn't think she sounded awkward or clumsy, but I agree that Michelle is probably a better speaker overall. Still, I thought she did a good job and is a much better speaker (and candidate) than she was four years ago.

I'm sorry, but I cannot respect that opinion. I agree that everyone has a right to his own opinion, but that doesn't mean I respect it.

I really enjoyed the entire convention, and I usually don't like that sort of thing. Most pep rallies are just corny. I found this DNC uplifting, inspiring, moving, and joyful.
And the icing on the cake was one of the last songs played near the end: Think by Aretha Franklin. How appropriate!

i know what you mean. did you read tryptakid's post?

i struggle to imagine hearing trump campaign and not thinking "this guy is just the worst human being". but reading his post gave me a different perspective and helped me understand that two people can listen to the same thing and hear it totally differently.

respect for that difference is what i was trying to convey.

I would bet my life that any republican that spoke out against trump will vote Harris/Walz Even the ones that say they are supporting the republican candidate. Think of it. Someone like Bill Barr that spoke out freely while Biden was president and now says he will support trump. I call BS. Barr is afraid of trump as is Haley and some of the other ones. They will go into the booth and vote Harris/Walz too keep a safe life. Their lives will be easier and they won't have to worry if trump remembered all the bad things he said. Plus Barr is a weasel so it makes sense. lol

I'm sorry, but I cannot respect that opinion.
Neither do I. It is not an opinion to me. It is the punchline of the saying a sucker is born everyday. Like when I see news saying trump is sucking all the RNC money up I scratch my head that there are people that do not believe that. I respect all people, but not some blind allegiances born from a con man,

I get criticism against the left ideas and such. I really do. Nothing wrong with being conservative. But to point to trump as an answer to that is beyond weak and gullible. The republican party has already come apart.

Kamala' speech was inspirational.
Where it ranks on inspirational speeches, I dunno. But, we have been so very lacking in inspirational speeches that it was water on thirsty ground.

(I think it ranked up there. For one, we have to take back patriotism from these people who actually hate America)

"FLORIDA - Trump claims that the Harris Campaign has paid off at least 20 million Americans to stay at home and watch the Democratic National Convention, after a Nielsen Ratings report showed it had a 20% higher viewership than the Republican National Convention.
When asked for proof of his accusations, Trump responded: "The proof is everywhere! Bribes! Tremendous bribes, the likes of which our country has never seen before. I mean, China is laughing at us because of bribes and windmills."
When pushed for specific examples of bribes, Trump stated: "That's a stupid question. She's paying people off with higher Social Security Benefits, child tax credits, low unemployment rates, promising to restore reproductive rights to women and improved access to healthcare. I could go on but I see Stephen Cheung waving his arms to get my attention. You know, my campaign team said to be nicer to Kambala. Sure, I'm a nice guy. So since I promised to say something positive about her, I will say to Kambala, if you're listening, I'd happily tap dat ass.""
