2024 US Presidential Election

i just watched trump's speech from nc today.

he whined for 5 minutes about democrats at the dnc taking shots at him instead of talking policy. he literally said "i try and be nice to people". his lack of self-awareness is incredible.

he also tried to claim that he coined the phrase "resolute desk". err, that's what it's called dipshit.

he is fucking losing it.

He has been mentally gone for some time now. And yet they report his ramblings and rantings as valid points.

What many call "mainstream media" is corporate media. News networks are corporations. A corporation will serve the values and needs of a corporation. It's automatic, it's not a plot. Corporate media has always treated Dems less kindly. They don't want to pay higher taxes, for one.

However, they do also have the motive of profits.
1. They do require some credibility to continue and
2. "Backing a winner" will get more viewers.

So, they will try to shore up the Repugs up only to a certain point. Once there is a certain amount of inevitability or likelihood of winning for the Dems, they will jump on board.

I can tell the race is still close because they are still treating Trump like he's not creepy and crazy.

obviously the convention is on right now when things tend to be more upbeat but the contrast in tone of the two campaigns right now is so stark. even some ardent trump supporters must be starting to tire of his endless whining, lies and negativity?

I thought last nights speeches were pretty meh compared to the Obamas.

Who else is tonight besides Momala ?

"Glazed or plain" ?

Give me a dozen plain. I'll glaze them myself.

How long you been here?

"Uh... six months."

Ok, good.

This is second only to MLK's I Have A Dream as the best speech of any kind I have ever heard in my life:

DON'S DONE.

And the response.

there's always been a kind of unwritten rule of u.s. politics that, when the convention is on, the opponent chills with the campaigning a bit and lets the other side do their thing.

would anybody expect somebody as ungentlemanly as trump stick to such a 'gentleman's agreement'?

his unhinged, tweets and calls in to fox during the dnc just stink of desperation and the lies and hype are getting bigger and crazier as he realises that he can't compete with the dems on policy discussion.

trump being trump? sure.

but, while his current campaign strategy (if there is such a thing) seems certain to whip up his ardent supporters, surely no independent or undecided voter is going to make up their mind to vote for him based on his current behavior? and the republicans know it.

man, they had a chance to dump this guy after 2020 and after jan 6th but they blew it and i think they'll be paying the price for a while to come...

jesus, now you've given it such an incredible review I'm gonna have to listen to the whole damn hour now - thanks for nothing! ;)

(Do you really mean it btw?)

The bits I heard were pretty damn good. Loved the bit where she said that Trump won't criticise autocrats because he wants be an autocrat himself :ROFLMAO:

But the MAGAs won't be moved. The more they realise how stupid they are, the more they'll dig their heels in and demand MORE GUNS!!

I hope you're right but a lot of us had this same thought leading up to 2016, then he won.
Then he got even more votes in 2020, despite losing.

All the Dems feel good now, but they should heed the words of the obamas about not losing focus
The sugar high of the convention will be gone in a week if not sooner...

Can you elaborate?

I didn't think her speech was even the best 2024 DNC speech, much less second of all time. She said what she needed to say, and I liked the tone she set... about moving forward and bringing people together. Impressed by her full throated support for Israel, and the overall display of patriotism. Liked her comment on Iran too.

I just think she's a bit awkward and clumsy sometimes. Like I said, I thought it got the job done. But Michelle Obama kinda left me dumbstruck. Which perhaps explains why they didn't put her speaking slot on the same night as Momala's.

Agreed 100%. There are many forces which make it to where Dems have to win big to win at all. And, the country is narrowly divided in the first place. It will be close.

However, I've been thinking. I know Trumpers who I've talked to about his rallies. They talk about how much fun they are and how happy everyone is. One of the big reasons he won and maintains his base is maybe that they are having a good time. It's a mean spirited, own the libs kind of joy, but they are grinning.

Meanwhile, the Dems sound like your History teacher. Personally, I would vote for my History teacher thinking he knew his shit... but I'm not the typical voter.

And there's this. Remember this Star Trek episode, Day Of The Dove?
