2024 US Presidential Election

i think maybe "break down" is not the best choice of phrase there.

carbon monoxide can oxidise into carbon dioxide (2 CO + O2 → 2 CO2) typically in the presence of a catalyst. as ions notes, that's exactly what a catalytic converter does.

alasdair
It does however SS did not mention anything about catalysts and seems to imply these things happen spontaneously

You are aware that plants consume Co2, yes?
Um, yeah? The atmosphere had no oxygen at one time till cyanobacteria in the ocean photosynthesized enough CO2 into oxygen to cause the Great Oxidation Event and a mass extinction. Multicellular life and thus animals couldn't evolve until then.

You really should take a deep dive into the different phases of the earth and how the balance of the organisms on it and the atmosphere have affected the survival of those organisms. You might be less skeptical about us changing that balance again and causing our extinction.

CO2 in the presence of sun forms sugars. Plant life.
Lightning and atmospheric nitrogen and water forms amino acids.

You should be more sceptical about blatantly politicised science, pushed by a ruling class that openly gloats about wanting to reshape the world order and is practically telling you how they are going to achieve that.

And what you do isn't politicizing science? Honestly come on

Heck of a ruling class there since they somehow have co-opted 97 percent of climate scientists to agree that humans are causing climate change. All of them in on this vast conspiracy to fool us. Apply Occam's razor.

Oh fuck off with that Occam's razor bullshit.

1. Science and institutions are composed of people. People are fallible. Money influences that fallibility, along with the threat of loss of prestige and/or career.
2. A consensus is not a guarantee of anything. 97% of people can still be wrong. Truth does not abide to consensus or democratic vote.
3. We literally just lived through the most bullshit scientism driven hysteria in the history of mankind. And you think this one is any different.

We have been collecting data on climate change and the impact of emissions for far longer than we have been studying a previously unseen virus
And yet the Maldives are not underwater and raking in continuing investment, despite decades of this supposed acceleration of the problem.

All the data in the world does not change the facts on the ground. A mountain of data does not make a mountain.

You cherry pick results all while misunderstanding not only basic mechanisms but statistics and methods of study and apply those misunderstandings to supporting your preconceived notions of politics and human behavior. We have been over this
What the fuck are you even talking about. We have had DECADES of fear mongering about rising sea levels, photos of polar bears floating on lone icebergs, and yet the low lying islands are still above sea level. Even Greta had to remove one her of tweets because her prediction expired.

I don't give a fuck about your whining over your belief in a particular data driven scientific narrative. You sound like a medieval adherent of the Church, you can't face up to the actual reality on the ground and are completely blinded by your adherence to the faith.

Lol. Now, now.
Nearly all climate scientists agree that there is man made climate change and that we are already experiencing bad effects from it. What they don't agree on is how bad those effects will be. You can cherry pick predictions that have been wrong all day, they will only be off in matters of degree Warming is accelerating now at rapidity exceeding most mainstream predictions, so they can be inaccurate in the other direction as well.

I have an idea. Sign a paper offering yourself up as food if the climate change disasters we are already seeing reach epic proportions.
I call it the Soylent Green New Deal.

And yet the Maldives are not underwater

not yet.

since tracking in the 1950s, the sea level at the maldives has been documented as rising between 0.8mm and 1.6mm per year (source: ecohubmap). and, more troubling, the rate of increase is accelerating.

and yet the low lying islands are still above sea level.

it's only 2024. at that rate, most if not all of the country could be uninhabitable by 2100.

in the last 40 years - which is a relatively short amount of time in geographic terms - the reclamation efforts have increased the country's land mass by about 10%.

alasdair

Could be, but won't.

It amazes me the adherence you lot to have to such miniscule measurements that have so much weighing against their viability as measurements, whether that be done by tide gauge or satellite.

The proof is in the pudding. Nothing has happened, despite constant predictions that failed to materialize - gee whizz, where have we seen that pattern before I wonder..
