2024 US Presidential Election

the gop has gone strangely silent on this issue, no?

i watched a couple of clips this morning. in one james comer admitted that he has no idea if the tapes are legitimate and in the other jim jordan doubted whether the recordings even exist.

is this what we call a "nothingburger"?

A study I read yesterday on NPR showed that more GOP leaning women prefer Trump and more GOP leaning men prefer Desantis in the primary. I wonder why that is?

I’d be highly skeptical of anything on Npr. But it would seem to be the opposite of that. Women generally hate trump, and men prefer him to desantis since desantis is essentially a third term of George w.

I’d take a third term of W over a second term of Trump any day.
Neo liberalism and neo conservatism share many tenants, which is the reason many liberals would prefer this. I personally just hate the establishment and war, so trump was a no brainer. I don’t think there is a political solution, but if I did vote I’d be on team rfk for sure.

i think you're coping hard if you truly believe trump was anti-war...

he may well have, by the letter, not initiated any brand new conflicts but the idea that he made good on his promises to bring troops home and end all wars is pretty silly.

he was instrumental in prolonging conflict by increasing troop levels, increased dependence on private military contractors, and significantly increased airstrikes, which increased the number of civilian deaths. for example, in september 2017, the u.s. military carried out 751 airstrikes in afghanistan, the highest monthly total in 7 years of conflict in that country.

sure he talked a lot about ending conflict but you and i both know how worthless talk is, right? actions count and these are not the actions of an anti-war or anti-establishment president. sure, he inherited this war but he escalated it.

there were bipartisan majorities in congress that tried to stop the involvement of the u.s. military in yemen. awesome right? nope, it never happened because trump vetoed the resolution: Trump vetoes measure to end US involvement in Yemen war

not the action of an anti-war president.

he also withdrew the u.s. from the i.n.f. treaty: U.S. Withdraws From Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty

and the open skies treaty: U.S. Completes Open Skies Treaty Withdrawal

not the actions of an anti-war president.

No new conflicts is a huge thing, first president to do so in many many decades. This is a large part of why the establishment sperged out and attacked him with everything they had. They need new wars in order to keep kicking the can down the road, they know they can’t get the congress to sign off, so they need the president to sign off on them. Also having a person that other countries respect and fear is big, it’s why no one tried anything under him imo

no new wars is a very convenient, selective analysis.

i'm sure northrop grumman's balance sheet does not reflect whether a missile was fired in a new war or an escalation of an existing conflict but whatever.

Trump? No conflicts? The great unifier? ;)

If Trump could make a nickle he would start a war in seconds with another country. But now he can't do that because he gave them our classified military secrets so we could get beat. So he starts domestic wars, again for money.

He ran on starting no new wars, and even pulled troops out of Afghanistan. Him having to maintain various genocides and conflicts started by his predecessors was unavoidable imo. Definitely not perfect, but he stuck to his campaign promise, much to the dismay of the establishment. And now he’s paying for it.

But wait, I thought Biden pulled the troops out of Afghanistan, and that it was deplorable how he did it so suddenly and ineptly? Or I guess it was Trump, except he gets credit for being a savior, and Biden still gets the demerit, too.

Really feeling Ramaswamy. Conservative perspectives on why I shouldn't like this guy are welcomed. I wish more people would get on his train.

Eight GOP candidates notch first qualifying poll for August debate

"Candidates must hit at least 1% support in three national polls or at least 1% in two national polls and one early state poll to qualify for the first debate. They must also meet a donor requirement and pledge to support the GOP nominee in order to participate in the first debate, which is set for Aug. 23." (my emphasis)

which leads to this:

Trump says he won’t sign Republican loyalty pledge, flouting debate requirement

"Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday he won’t sign a pledge to support the Republican nominee if he loses the GOP presidential primary, flouting a requirement for appearing in the first debate later this month."

as if there was any doubt that trump gives a shit about anyone or anything other than himself.
