2017 Trump Presidency Thread

Much as I'd love to see trump out of office and the sooner the better. I for one don't want to be placing any bets. A lot of people including myself didn't believe he had any chance of being elected in the first place at at least some stage of his campaign. And we were wrong.

One thing that it proves is you never know for sure how it'll all turn out. Hopefully he won't get a second term, hopefully he won't complete this term. But after all we've already seen I think it would be foolish to rule out any possibility that he might make it to 2 full terms.

Provided his childish incompetence hasn't destroyed the world by then I mean.

^He wants to roll back regulations that acknowledging climate change would make difficult, mostly by executive order.

I believe he made a political calculation. And I agree it's not just stupidity. Or perhaps I should state that ignorance isn't an excuse in his particular position.

Of his entire legacy, unless we are nuking North Korea or in WWIII, then it's the absolute worst part of his it as well as a repudiation of science. Dangerous territory.

Trump has engaged NK in a threatrning way and has done the worst thing possible. He has blown their threat level way out of proportion. NK seems to think that they need these weapons in self defense. Im pretty sure any country who has these weapons has done ballistic missile tests. They have done no different.

Trump has pointed out their massive arsenal and used it to try to stop NK in their tracks. As if that would work.

China are not idiots. They dont need to do what they are told by Trump. They wont either as seen on tv yesterday.

They wont let innocent people starve to death or run out of oil. Thats a good thing. The sanctions are brutal. What did they ever do to you?

Americans and their need for control.

Its America that needs controlling .

So much damage done because you elected an imbecile to office.

Ugh.

You wont learn either.

I hope America one day has no sway on international affairs. You really messed up. Theres everyone else on earth who needs to wake up and cut you out like the cancer you are.

trump is doing his best to accomplish that. if WW3 starts anytime soon, us and israel will be the axis powers, and the rest of the world will be the allied powers.

Yeah you're not Aussie/Canadian, you're Aussie. Same reason I noticed it last time. Noone else takes the anti-Americanism to such over the top arrogant extremes. Living here I know why of course, it's cause you're all in an echo chamber of it and so it re-enforces it to yourselves nonstop. It is without a doubt the worst thing about having to live here. Without question. The supreme arrogance, and by extension overwhelming irony of it. Like how every year I hear all year about how Americans are apparently delusionally patriotic in the minds of Australians, then come Australia day... man. They blow us out of the water.

Don't bother replying. I mean you can if you want but I won't be reading it. I won't convince you, you won't convince me. So if you don't want me to have the last word or whatever, you're welcome to reply. I just don't want to waste your time if odds are I won't look at it. It'd just be wasting both our time.

EDIT: Just quickly something else, I'm not saying ALL Australians are like this. Just that only Australians are like this. In truth there's a lot of things I do like about Australia and Australians. But this is without question the worst part.

You know what. I'm sorry.

It's not really that I don't kinda somewhat believe what I said, but, truthfully I was just in a bad mood when I said it. So I wanted to come back and apologize for it.

I do kinda think there's a lot of truth to what I said, but it was still just something I said in frustration and being in a negative mood already more than something I put proper thought into. And even if I still think there was a level of justification for my being offended by it. There was still no need or point to my reply beyond being an attack.

So for that I apologize.

It hurts me so much these days to call myself 'American'. Even if in the off chance that 90% of the country doesn't agree with what's going on, we're powerless to stop these oligarchical maniacs. Never in my life have I felt such genuine concern that the place I live in may become a nuclear wasteland within my lifetime. It's the 1950s all over again, except this time, there's no one at the controls willing to talk things down...

Well it shouldn't.

Call me patriotic, call me deluded, call me whatever you like. But I honestly believe America is about a lot more than who leads it or even the stupidity of the population. It's also about the fundamental ideals. Now I know what some would say. That ideas like freedom, democracy, etc, that America doesn't have a patent in them. And they're correct, it doesn't. But what I'm talking about is more involved than that. It's the unique combination of ideals, how they interact, and most of all, how they're interpreted. There are many ideas about what free speech is, I've yet to see a culture that embraces my idea of what they mean better than America. Even if we frequently fail to put those ideals into proper practice. There's something unique about the American version of it. And you know, I'm not saying that that version is innately correct or that others ideas of it can't be right for them. But I feel ours are right for us.

Way I see it, that's the important thing, what we're supposed to be more than what we are. Obviously I'd much prefer if both were the case, sadly it's not. And I don't disagree that things right now are very troubling. But I for one refuse to throw out the things I like because of the things I don't.

But hey, that's just me. And I've heard people tend to start seeing their own culture with rose colored glasses when they spend prolonged time in another. It can be difficult when you hear Australians complain over and over nonstop about stupid Americans and not take it personally. Especially when my presence doesn't make much difference which means it either IS personal or a great many of them are just so fucking inconsiderate and used to their cultural self reenforcment that it never even crosses their minds that I might take offense to it. So yea, could just be my own issues.

What I really wish is that things would change. I was never a big fan of Obama, but at least Americans reputation globally improved a lot under him. Now it's probably about as bad as it's ever been. Which seems kind of unfair to me given that trump didn't even win the popular vote. I think I'm still kinda in shock over trumps victory. If I'm honest, I really didn't see it coming. In hindsight I think I should have, but I didn't.

People suck wherever you go, they just suck in different ways.

His victory was fueled/backed by anger over the politically correct era that perpetuated under Obama; for that I can't blame people, for their reaction and subsequent voting, I do.

I dunno, there are many a great things to be patriotic about obviously. Our country's history has always fascinated me, and as a student of world history, I am most interested in what transpired here, and not abroad. It's just, like you said, Obama and the Dems worked so hard to reverse what W. did to this country, and now it's even worse. A book I read back in college went over this, God if that writer even knew what was coming... The American populous sat by and smiled as they signed their rights away under the Patriot Act, and still no one in our government sees fit to stand up and say "This is wrong, we are ruining what it is to be American." So maybe Obama and the Dems really didn't try at all.

I think that our country's potential reached it's peak during the Cold War years and everything since has been a shit show; perhaps it was the true threat of war with a country that could match our military might and vigor that brought Americans together enough to not hate each other as much as we now do. It's like the country I was born into was more concerned with who was sleeping with who than what's happening in the average American's life. I remember where I was on 9/11 very vividly, though at the time I didn't understand it. Now I'm convinced that the American people sat by and cheered as we permitted our own government to kill over 2000 American citizens, all so they could assume control over the populous.

I know that to a degree, our country still hasn't reached that 1984-esque point of thought conformity that places like China and Russia have. Heck, here I am professing that our government is evil and killing its own citizens, and my door is currently still standing and not kicked in; yet I truly fear that the day may come, much sooner than later, that Americans will sit by and watch as our doors indeed are kicked in for such reasons. Hell, they're already kicked in for some forms of thought crime (drug use), where will it end? The Dems are as much to blame for this too, don't think for a second I truly fall into party lines. They did nothing to protect our liberties either. Simply saying that Trump is the devil and shit doesn't mean you wouldn't push your own hellish agenda if you had the chance...

I understand what it's like to cross borders and have assumptions made about you, though my experience is simply crossing my state's vast border and having people act like I ride a horse to work and don't have electricity and the like. I don't think that's any reason for me to deny the crimes and evils of my state though, and all I try to do is to show that not quite all of us from this shit hole are uneducated and backwards; in fact, some of us are doing what we can to fight this. None the less, it makes it difficult for me to be proud of my home. If I had the chance, I'd move elsewhere. Not far... but elsewhere.

i so cant wait to see trump get impeached. watching him get dragged out of the white house in handcuffs is going to be so gratifying.

Well when you believe you're always right, you can change your mind and say the opposite of what you used to believe and still be right. Both then and now. Amazing isn't it.
