2017 Trump Presidency Thread

Trump has ripped open the coffers of the Public Health Emergency Fund.
That's $57,000.00 (US!!) for the epidemic.

People involved in the drug trade will be receiving maximum sentences.

Plus some more paperwork for doctors and dentists who want to prescribe pain meds.

Trump also told a tough moral story about how his brother, who is dead from not opixxxs, told him not to drink or smoke so he doesn't!

Box checked.

It's so depressing...

When it comes to Trump nothing surprises me anymore. I just watched vice and it seems that he can count with 32%, the way I understand this group will follow him no matter what. That I find difficult to grasp.

The big test will be when they either lose health insurance coverage in their area or have huge premium increases. Trump will blame Obamacare and Congress.

If they figure out that he sabotaged it and that the Republicans control everything... yeah that's two things.

If they figure out it's Trump's fault then he's screwed.

People do understand losing their health coverage. It's just assigning blame. At that level of 'understanding' ;), it's easiest to villify one person everyone knows. Ergo Trump??

There's some theory out there that 30% is as low as you can go; the last thirty are your UFO Bigfoot 9/11 lizard people AM Coast to coast demo. Somebody here remembers the name I'm sure . . .

I mean 30% generally, of Americans, no matter what the issue

Right on! It’s a lot of people indeed.

This makes me remember McCain’s trajectory to win the elections back then in 2007. I watched the documentary and in given time he didn’t want to confront his vice because there was a “dark side of American Nationalists he didn’t want to awake.” He seemed to be terrified by that. I didn’t understand that back then but it seems that this ‘monster’ is now awake and aligned with every group of nazists, racists and all sort of ‘bad’ people, in general - so to speak.

The Red State scorched earth tea party peppers evangelical fundamentalist s, a demo courted by the GOP that came to roost with trump.

But I don't think it's new, and not inherently right-wing. A hundred years ago in Kansas the people were just as angry at bankers and gubmit, and even more racist and religious, but they were near-communist in their politics. I don't know what you would call that aspect of a country.

Erik, you're the psychologist, what's a better name for id?

He should hold on to some "key" archive papers about JFK until he needs the conspiracy theorists to leave their homes and put on the tinfoil and vote!

Scorched earth is right. Steve Bannon is the best thing to happen to Democrats. Flake and Corker jumping ship is proof that the mainstream is being replaced by the lunatic fringe. The Alabama Senate race is tied because of Roy Moore. I dated a therapist and I think the term for what we are seeing on the right is an "extinction burst."

Donald Trump turned a photo-op with children of the press into an attack on the media

Trump celebrates Halloween by insulting children and their parents

"I cannot believe the media produced such beautiful children," Trump said upon seeing the tiny humans pile in to his office, parents (and cameras) in tow.

After that back-handed compliment, things got even more cringe-worthy.

To [one] child, he said, “Well, you have no weight problems — that’s the good news, right?” as he handed out candy.

It was good and can be again!!

So cute!! Obama playing with an adorable little Pope in a Popemobile

Happy Halloween BLers!

I still think people are mistakingly thinking there's just low self esteem. And high self esteem aka normal self esteem. There's not. A narcissist like trump does not have low self esteem nor do they have healthy self esteem.

But I'm sick of this discussion so I'm gonna just leave it there.

Watch Trump with other leaders and you will see the lack of confidence. People with high self esteem tend to behave differently- they don’t need to put others down to stand out. It does not make sense if you are okay with yourself.

It makes perfect sense if you have such a high opinion of yourself and your worth that you feel an injustice being committed that others aren't seeing the same thing. You feel you deserve better.

Overly high self esteem is a key part of narcissism. Like I've said a few times. Back in the 80s and 90s it was believed school bullies had low self esteem, that that was why they bullied people. For all the reasons people here have suggested. So there was a big movement to improve self esteem, the thinking being that by doing that, they wouldn't be so inclined to bully people.

But it was a big mistake. Most of the bully's didn't have low self esteem, their self esteem was already way too high and reinforcing that just made them feel even more deserving, it made things even worse.

Believe whatever you like. But I'm not remotely convinced trump or people like him have low self esteem.

So you disagree with the premise of the piece on the review article I posted (and the article)? I'm surprised. I felt it was compelling.

It's not so much that I disagree with it, more that I feel we are using the words a little differently.

Having overly high self esteem doesn't have to mean you are also narcissistic. But in practice I think most of the time the same underlying causes of the narcissistic personality also drive the excessive self worth. Basically I think it's all a part of the same phenomenon. And I think it's unusual for people to have that kind of an inflated self esteem to not also have narcissistic tendencies with it.

People with healthy self esteem don't feel better than other people. But someone with excessively inflated self esteem is going to notice more readily when others don't reinforce their feelings of themselves back to them. It's all very complicated cause the mind is very complicated. But the point here is that I do NOT believe people like this have low self esteem. I see no rational reason to think that, it goes against what my instincts tell me, it goes against everything I've read. I just don't see any reason to think that. It doesn't feel right, it doesn't match the evidence. The only justification I can see to believe it is this naive and largely discredited notion held by our culture that bullies secretly have low self esteem. That their behavior is a coping mechanism for their low self esteem, rather than the truth being that they really DO think they are better and more deserving to other people.

I believe what I believe cause it's what my instincts for people tell me, which I trust. And because it's what the evidence I've seen suggests.

Anyone else thinking that the Trump administration is going to throw Paul Manafort under the bus and that this will go away? As much as I hate to say it, I prefer Trump over the alternative - President Mike Pence. He's been characterized as a truly regressive progressive.

When I was living in Vermont I woke up early one morning to a horrible scraping sound looked out the window and saw a black bear dragging a neighbor's garbage can down the street. The same bear surprised the shit out of me while doing yardwork. I heard the dog going berserk inside the house and was shocked when I looked behind me and the bear was about 10 feet away from me. As my neighbor said, "That is one crazy ass bear." While they might be timid by nature, they are notoriously unpredictable. I'd keep a safe distance. I cancelled a kayak camping trip to North Carolina because of multiple bear attacks a few years ago.

Ya that wasn't right - you think Trump could of kept his personal feelings to him self for 20 minutes and make it about kids having fun. I figure he was the biggest monster or clown in the room. Cheers and happy weekend!
