^yes he was.
Even with your spin he was still more right than wrong.

talking about the importance of freedom then getting bent out of shape when somebody does it in a way that you don't like is called paying lip service...
You have the freedom to protest. I have the freedom to explain why your method of protesting is stupid, insulting and counterproductive.

the idea that to not stand while the national anthem is playing shows a lack of respect for, or allegiance to, the nation is just simplistic, not to mention lazy.
No, this method of protest is lazy. Standing for the national anthem and respecting a flag is a long-held tradition that has bound diametrically-opposed factions together as a nation. It is the only thing that everyone had in common and once we discard this practice then we have nothing left uniting us. It is creating division and that is why there is such a big uproar about it.

as trevor noah astutely asked a few months ago, how else was he supposed to send his message? what was the right way? send a tweet? nope, that's the refuge of the lazy and the superficial. pivot to the issue in a post-game interview? that would have been, for many, more respectful but he'd still have been criticized for it.
What even was his message? They're not doing a good job of explaining themselves. It also doesn't help that all this is based on lies and false narratives.

he's an athlete so, given his inability to wear, say, a shirt with a protest message, he silently knelt during the national anthem. saying he's spitting in the face of the military by doing so is mock outrage.
The NFL refused to let players wear a small badge on their helmets honoring the 5 slain police officers that were killed by a BLM protester. Why does the NFL decide which protests are acceptable? Only the left-wing protests based on lies are allowed?

so, if marching is bad. if assembling is bad. if quietly kneeling is bad. what is the 'good' way for a black man to protest? what use is a protest that is so antiseptic it gets no attention?
There is a lot one can do. But the important question is: what exactly are these black men protesting? Lest I remind you that the biggest threat to young black men (by FAR) are other young black men. Not as edgy to protest that though is it?

For the record I agree they have the right to protest, but I know Americans and this is absolutely one of the most counterproductive and alienating ways to do so. Anyone who temporarily suspends their virtue-signalling will no doubt agree with this. One of the points to protesting is to get people onto your side and to empathize with you. That is why I called this method of protesting stupid.

Here's Why Some Trump Supporters Are Now Burning Their Trump Merch

Easy on the spam.

It was interesting to see reduced attendance at NFL home games in California (SF & LA).
The vast majority of people are not cool with spoiled, virtue-signalling crybabies disrespecting the country based on lies.

Don't care for US football, and prefer to see people respect the customs. If I were the US President, I would not have said a word about it because I have learned to ignore free speech that is annoying or wrong to me. And I am in agreement with him, that the kneeling is awful and disrespectful in the context of sports that should not be political. I could care less about US football. Let's stick to the issues.

Trump is too used to being that guy that he was before he became President. When he could say whatever he wanted on Twitter.
I don't think he realizes now that his words come with much more gravity - and even a casual suggestion or opinion can be interpreted as a political threat or one based on policy decisions.

Let it never be said that I never agreed with Liquid Method about anything.

Indeed. Often feels like he thinks he's still campaigning. And he doesn't seem to think about how foreign powers read his tweets and how dangerous they can be. Someone like him shouldn't be tweeting without someone else considering the national security implications before the tweet gets posted.

Trump doesn't understand yet the weight his words, whether spoken or tweeted, carry. That realization might come at a very bitter price.

Really?

I'm so sick of hearing about this NFL thing it's such a non issue. A Million American citizens are suffering in Puerto Rico while Trump is fucking the dog in the white house. The reports out of there are disgusting.

It truly is a non-issue. Reports are now coming out that the pentagon paid the NFL to make their players stand for the national anthem. Back when the USA was better-USA they weren't even on the field.

He finally lifted the Jones Act after trying to pressure PR on its debt. Ironically he owes them an estimated 33 million. Then he proceeded to state how many shippers might be hurt by him lifting the Jones Act.

He is only about a week late, but you know, time flies during an emergency.

The man is simply unfit for humanity, let alone the presidency.

There seems to be a disconnect between the black Lives Matter protest that the NFL players began and the response from your government.

I've read all the posts here about flags and songs and it seems once again the point of the protest has been missed and protesters are being blamed for protesting wrong.

It's hilarious but it's actually about police killing black teens with no regard for human life or due process.

Just wanted to remind you it's not about the flag or about the music you play before sports, it's about young people being murdered by those in authority.

Don't let Donald make it about his ignorance either. Just ignore him when he opens his mouth about anything he is undereducated on and it'll save you a lot of time. For those that feel I'm attacking him I'm really not, this isn't about your flag, your sports, your music or your president. It's about the murder of black teenagers by police and it is still happening. If you want them to stand up during sports event anthems find and remove all police that murder black teenagers.

This is perfect way to protest and the response is obstification.

^ tend to agree.

it's pretty galling to hear this president talk so cynically about respect because, in my opinion, he frequently demonstrates that he doesn't know the meaning of the word.
