2017 Trump Presidency Thread

When you can redefine a word (racist) or term (Mexican is a race of people from Mexico) to fit the institution (current US Administration)... well that is a terrifying concept and brings on the fear of 'Big Brother' and the thought police.

Trying- grsh

How is Mexican not a race? It is not an ethnicity, but it is a race. Please explain to me how it is not.
Actually it could be considered an ethnicity as well, defined as "the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition".

Yeah, if you look at it by population, you remember, nobody lives in that sea of red. (I used to think of it like Pakinstan's "Tribal Zones" where the Federal Government doesn't have much control, till someone pointed out, oh yeah, we do still have tribes that live out there.)

The good news is that fewer and fewer people live out there, more come to the cities where they're forced to interact with people who aren't white and christian, find out the Muslim at the liquor store is totally normal and doesn't want to murder them with his sharias. They also run into conmen and learn not to be so fucking gullible.

The map is taken from a slightly biased place, but it's a still from the interactive here.. (YOu can spin it around and everything!)

2016 margin of victory by county by number of votes:

I just wanted to say thank you Scrofula, this needed to be shown and I just didn't have the ability to be civilized, so I appreciate that you brought it up. Picking and choosing the map shown, like was dome without the population illustration that you see on the map you posted, causes misunderstandings to thrive. No wonder people think in a lateral direction, choosing several sources is difficult and strenuous work.

Shoot- signing off before... is it to late?

A black mexican and a white mexican walk into a bar.
Are they the same race?

I know this one!!
If one shoots the other:
A. The white one will be considered Caucasian and interviewed by the police until the press figures out he is half-Mexican and not know what to do with it so blame the black one for getting shot. The white one will not be charged.

B. The black one will be shot by the police and the white one will be interviewed by them. The police will not be charged.

"mexican is not a race therefore he can't be racist" is a lazy, semantic cop out.

Mexico is not a race, but Trump proves racism has nothing to do with logic

trump is an ignorant bigot.

let's move on.

alasdair

First- WOW- HFS! I had no idea that Mexican is not a race was actually (it's just no believable- the forms here in the US ask for your race, and you have to circle the answer- typically something like- (circle one) White Mexican Black Pacific Islander, etc.) a thing with this Administration? President? Anyone!

Second- moving on!

<~~~~Leaves thread to do research on what the thought police are doing now.

I think you fail to grasp the bigger picture, alaisdair. This isnt about race, this is ALL about politics.

Trump knows that if immigration isnt curtailed all those Latino immigrants streaming into the country will (eventually) vote Democrat, which means the DNC will have a decade or two monopoly on the POTUS elections.

Republican voters in the US saw this coming as well, which is why they came out so strong for Trump.
And this is why Trump won the electoral votes, but not the urban (or popular) vote, since most latinos tend to congregate in large US cities

Because it is not racist - Mexican is not a race, and he was insinuating that the judge with familial ties to the state of Mexico might hold a political grudge against him for his Wall rhetoric. That comment would still be applicable if the dude had light skin. He was in no way saying that the race or skin color of that person was inhibiting them for doing their job, which would have been racist. And honestly, out of the hundred times that I demanded examples of Trump's racism from all the consistent shriekers of "racist" here, this comment directed at the judge was considered the worst. And it's not even racist. You may disagree with Trump's campaign rhetoric (a lot of it I do disagree with) but you all have demonstrably failed to provide solid evidence of Trump being racist.

Try harder.

Tell me, why did so many Hispanics vote for Trump? He did better with minorities than Mitt Romney.
So by your flawed and subjective logic - Mitt Romney is more racist than Donald Trump.

Do I have that right?

I don't know why immigrants voted for Trump and could care less about Mitt Rommey. Trump is by all definitions a racist person. Besides I don't have to prove anything to you. He's a racist, period. You are a radical Trump follower, so nothing here will make you think differently.

I don't know of too many migrant workers living in urban populations....

this may be wrong with the opportunity to trim marijuana plants in major urban locales now. But it's just my experience in my previous travels.

Trump made a statement, that because the judge was Mexican, he could not or would not fairly sit in judgement of a case against Trump due to Trump's policies with Mexico. BECAUSE HE IS MEXICAN= Racism.

As for trying harder to change Trump's racism... how are we supposed to do that?

This person will never ever understand what you are saying. It feels like reasoning with a computer bug.

Fresca, the Democratic party already has the superior numbers, has for a while. It's the problem when you only represent 1% of the population. And explains a lot of Republican tactics.

Cmon, you folks know half the drug war is due to Nixon keeping down the young liberal vote (by arresting them for drugs or sending them to war).

The Senate Wednesday scuttled a proposal by Sen. Rand Paul to repeal the war authorizations that underpin the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as military action in a slew of other countries.

The vote was 61 to 36 to table — or kill — Paul's amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. The Kentucky Republican's proposal would have repealed both the 2001 and 2002 authorizations for the use of military force six months after the bill becomes law, giving lawmakers a tight window to pass a new framework for U.S. military operations overseas.

[...]

"I don't think that anyone with an ounce of intellectual honesty believes that these authorizations from 16 years ago and 14 years ago ... authorized war in seven different countries," Paul said.

"I am advocating a vote ... on whether or not we should be at war," Paul said. "It should be a simple vote. It is like pulling teeth."
