2017 Trump Presidency Thread

you continue to apologise for him.

imagine you had a friend who's constantly telling you how fucked the environment is and that fossil fuels are terrible. he bikes everywhere and he's always on at you because you drive a toyota with a gas engine.

he gets a new job with a pay rise and show up at your house a couple of days later in an escalade with a 6.2L V8 that gets 14 miles to the gallon.

would you wait to see what he does next or just assume that all the stuff he told you about saving the planet was bullshit based on his initial response to his new job and pay rise?

because, in my opinion, he's not giving it a shot. he fell at the very first hurdle.

alasdair

I can personally attest to the fact that alasdair is a good patient person who's not afraid to tell you when you're being an asshole. Not many people can endure my bullshit for very long but somehow he hung in there with me until the problem got solved. Now I find out that he also has eyes and can plainly see what's going down as we speak.

I am a prick though.

Surgery costs too if they are pre-op

Was the military really expected to pay for transgender surgery? That's not right and if that is what Trump is referring to, as much as it pains me to say this, he's right. My injectable testosterone costs me about $120 every 5 months of so. I take it just because I'm old and I love feeling like a 17 year old in a 61 year old body when it comes to pretty women.

What do you thin will save the democratic party alasdair?

What will counterbalance Trump's influence on history?

What is your pipe dream fantasy (no offense, I have pipedreams) of the future of the USA?

trumps tweet assault on sessions is ridiculous. if he has such a serious issue with his ag, why doesn't he take responsibility for the mistake he made when he hired him, and fire him?

"Everything starts with you. Realize that you're in charge. Whatever happens, you're responsible." (tweet by donald trump, jan 22nd 2015)

alasdair

You honestly want Sessions as your AG, or do you just want to be snarky?

It appears Trump was using him as street cred for the conservatives and republican establishment.

By year 7 you're going to see he is more blue than red, he invaded the republican party, along with the rest of us who couldn't stop cringing at the abomination the DNC became.

Hating trump doesn't mean you support clinton.
But at least she has some dignity about how she conducts herself.

I can see some ppl seeing her demeanor as "dignifying", but to me and millions of others it is robotic, programed an faux.
I, and I assume millions of others feel that in 2017 that we are more forgiving of coming of as rude, rather than coached, programmed and robotic.

The military pays for hrt?
Don't be fuckinn prick with the duh.
How the fuck would I know the us military pays for that.

The VA handles medical for all veterans, and a veteran is basically anyone who is or ever served in any capacity and wasn't drummed out dishonorably. So the military pays for treating your toenail fungus too. This can include family members, so the military also pays to have peas pulled out of toddler noses.

The VA is basically Medicaid, so a lot of vets just go with their current employer or other private insurance.

And really, for someone who knows the deepest conspiracies of the Illuminati and what the masons are up to, you should probably know the basics about a ginormous massive entitlement program that involves a huge chunk of the population.

Well, I guess my meth is a lot more than that, so I shouldn't make fun of you. I will say, if it really is an androgen you're shooting, you're shortening your life dramatically. Your 60yo veins may feel 17, but they ain't, and you better double your prostate exams.

But tell me why a health provider would not cover a procedure for its clients that all the other providers do?

Oh wait, you're Soso78. Sorry, Alisdair was on your case, I just assumed you were the liquid one.

I love it when the lexicon changes from earned benefits to entitlements. Keep saying it enough though and the public perception will change to be what you want it to be. So my advice to you is keep working on it. My wife worked for the VA here in Tampa and said the place is basically a fucked up mess. I agree that paying for all that stuff you mentioned is ridiculous though. Be careful what you wish for. The tables can turn in life on someone in the blink of an eye. Another way of saying it is the Shoe is on the other foot.

The other thing I wanted to say was I never thought I would actually start feeling sorry for Sessions, but now inexplicably, I do. Also why couldn't Trump let the transgenders know they were out in a more tactful manner than tweeting?

lol you lost me for a bit there scrofula.
Would the military pay for cosmetic surgery? A woman's boob job or facelift?
Not sure they would pay for sex change op.

If you don't think a "sex change op" or gender reassignment is non-elective, then that's where the hangup is.

I'll be clear(er) for certain folks complaining about my biases: no one goes through years of therapy and hell to change their gender for fun, or so they can use a different bathroom.

FLA: I used "entitlements", as it's the word the right uses when denigrating social welfare programs. I used it against military benefits, but forgot, you guys say fuck 'em now. Unbelievable that Trump has done this damage to the right, that now you're pissing on healthcare for the military and welcoming Russian influence and even expressing admiration for Russian government (cf. the Liquid).

Soon the right will start reading Marx FFS, and call Ayn Rand a witch.

ETA: and let's not turn this into several pages about transgenders and bathrooms again. We all had that distraction with the last election, and they're stooping pretty low to bring it up again.

I am not sure of the rules with transgender surgery in any medical insurance provided by any government but as it technically is being paid for by the taxpayer then any surgery or medical cost granted to the military and paid for by the taxpayer should be available to the taxpayer.

It seems a bit rich to not do so.

How can the president not support the countries own troops!? It beats me.

Sorry to jump in like that and go off topic here for a moment, does Testosterone help you because you need to take it (your levels are down) or because you feel better? There are so many side effects. I couldn't do it on a long term because of all the risks, like increasing cholesterol, your chances to develop cancer, so despite of feeling better (physically speaking) it also gave me a heart rapid beating, swelling, not to mention possible prostate problems reason for which I had to go through all the exams so that it was safe enough to use it temporarily.

Anyways, back to the subject I think Trump doesn't want it because he's simply not comfortable with the idea and he doesn't want trans using uniform as he believes it does not suit them to be in the military. They are not good enough from his perspectives so he will create a distraction and relate it with issues like over budgeting, anything so that he wins the argument. That goes along with doing whatever it takes to overturn Obama's successful improvements, regardless of their merit. You know how he thinks...

President Trump has announced that the government will not allow transgender people to serve in the U.S. military, a year after the Pentagon lifted its ban on transgender service members.

It's a way to fill a news cycle, maybe he panicked with the bad press for the Bill to Discuss the Possibility of Drafting a Bill to Repeal Obamacare, which still took a VP vote to pass.

It's another of those things I doubt he really gives a fuck about, to be honest. And it's another case where his advisors show how clueless they are. The ban was lifted, so trans people have announced themselves in the military now. No one was talking about it, so it wasn't even a shout-out to the mouth-breathing base. And now when these folks are dishonorably discharged, we're going to have lawsuits. And he'll lose. Again. FOr nothing. Again.

Exactly. Well pointed - for nothing. Again.

I think this must have been such a nightmare for those who came out because they felt safe and are now under the shadow.

Fortunately, he also didn't inform the Department of Defense or the Pentagon. So now there's time for the courts to hear arguments for lawsuits filed by advocacy groups at the federal level to rule on this policy.

Unfortunately, the DOJ filed an amicus brief with the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, in which lawyers under Attorney General Jeff Sessions contend that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which bans sex discrimination, does not cover sexual orientation.

Trump is really supporting the LBGTQ community. Not sure what he thinks it stands for though.

Lol.

I don't really know anymore if he's playing strategically or just saying whatever comes to his mind. Maybe the latter.
