2017 Trump Presidency Thread

-They didn't know they would lose their coverage until the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) analysis of the actual proposed plan came out, which is why the Republicans put basically the same version to a House vote before the revised CBO report was released that stated only 23 million people would lose their coverage.
When campaigning Trump promised to repeal Obamacare and fix health insurance with a replacement that would be less expensive, provide better services, and be otherwise bigly huge best in every way because "who knew healthcare was so complex?"
And because some people think he's a good businessman (ha!) and a man who loves America and reads stuff, they believed him, and they voted for him.
The End ??
-Yes, the lawsuits have merit due to the emoluments clause, the fact that Trump might make political decisions based on personal financial interests, coupled with the fact that he (and Ivanka and her husband) did not follow tradition by putting their business interests in a blind trust.
However, it's very difficult to sue a sitting President (see Bill Clinton). Not impossible, but Republicans are still running hard defense for him. Best hope is that the independent special counsel digs into his finances looking for Russian money and finds all kinds of funkiness.
-No President has had lower approval ratings entering office in recent history and they have decreased since, no president with the same-party majority in the Senate and House of Representatives (Congress) has failed so miserably at passing legislation through Congress for this period of time, no president has had three government bodies- including a special counsel- conducting investigations because his campaign staff had inappropriate contact with, accepted large sums of money from in at least one case, and could possibly be blackmailed by or colluding with a foreign country, as well as possibly obstructing justice because he fired the head of the FBI when he requested more resources for the investigation, no president has had problems hiring a private lawyer because of his reputation of not listening to their advice (e.g. Tweeting about Comey) or (more importantly) concerns that he won't pay his bills, no president has had more people gather to protest his election at the site of his inauguration (west front of the Capitol building) the day after his inauguration than attended the actual event, no president has had so much trouble filling important positions because of the possible damage to the candidates' reputations, and no president has caused such unease throughout the world (one China policy, Qatar, NATO) or alienated our neighbors (Mexico and Canada) and insulted other allies (e.g., Japan, England, Australia) in such a short time. And I'm betting George W. Bush knew Israel was in the Middle East. 8)
Other presidents have had major problems, obviously, with the controversial Supreme Court decision that put George W. Bush (43) in office, Obama (bitter primaries, racism, and people like Trump claiming he was born in Kenya and therefore ineligible to be president), the impeachment of Bill Clinton, and so on.
The first two examples occurred at the beginning of their respective presidential tenures, but they came in with higher approval ratings and none had the word "impeachment" being thrown around this early in their presidencies.
So I'd say yes he's doing comparably worse than any president in this short of a time in recent history. ;)
Just remember we'd have Mike Pence for president and Paul Ryan for VP if Trump is impeached and voted out by Congress (highly unlikely unless Dems make significant gains in the House).
Be careful what you wish for.

I was reading somewhere that elizabeth warren is the leading candidate to run against trump. If thats the case it will be 8 years of trump or whoever replaces him when his crimes come to light.

Last thing dems need is another candidate that cares more about people being called names or discriminated against than the economy and healthcare

^ Indeed, but I'm seriously thinking that perhaps he believes in these B.S. If that's the case, I see an increasing danger in his Presidency. I mean, does anyone from the WH has the balls to tell him when he's crossed the lines..?

just when you thought it could not get any more bizarre: Trump makes bizarre claims at press event as Cabinet members take turns praising him

alasdair

Is this person really in his full mental capacity I wonder. Seriously, what if he isn't? That could be dangerous, right?

"Never has there been a president, with few exceptions … who has passed more legislation, done more things."

Issues like this one above for instance. Is the person Trump really believing this is true, or is it all a game to him? Like whatever sticks.

Trump is now officially under investigation by the FBI. When he wasn't under comey.

Fuck yea...only a matter of time until this piece of shit gets taken down...it was a good day today all around...

Some bribe taking dirtbags shot and trump under investigation

I really want this to happen. But always when I read about him there's always this thought that gets away with everything.
I can only imagine how frustrating that might be.

How is that even possible? Seriously, how can that happen - and how is that possible that an American President can and will not disclose what is in his Income Taxes? I know this is getting old, but don't you have a law about that.

I had to present my Income Tax every year when I worked for the State Department. Everyone else had to present theirs.
And I was just an office person. Trump seems to get away with everything. He can say whatever he wants, be whoever he wants.
This is probably affecting some of the population, after all his a role model for a lot of people.

The lowliest seasonal grunt (me) who worked for Treasury--by just opening the mail (not delivering it! That's a higher pay grade) has their taxes examined. They tell you up front you can't have the slightest issue with your taxes.

After season, I got notices saying I could not be hired because of old debts ($220 electric bill).

He isn't required to (release them publicly, of course you have to send your returns to the gubmit, that's how it works).

But in his case, we have a guy who can write off billion dollar losses.
It's not the tax rate he payed, it's where his investments are. They might be legal for a citizen, not for a leader of the country to have assets in foreign countries. That part is right there in the constitution.

It's like if Obama opened a chicken joint in Syria while president, and then vetoed airstrikes. I cannot imagine the whargarble from the right.

Indeed. He's definitely hiding something and he's a liar. He can run but he can't hide forever.
