2017 Trump Presidency Thread

Everything that I've heard coming out of the WH seems to indicate that Trump likes watching TV and tweeting. Couple that with his penchant for golfing and vacationing, and he's clearly not got a great work ethic.

Obama was an empty suit that took a lot of time off. His only accomplishment other than being the drone president, is being repealed very soon. Trump has extremely busy days , meeting with all kinds of people. Including union bosses and democrats of all types. He is non ideological and has been saying what he is going to do to fix the USA since he early 80s. All these fascists rioting, butt hurt theatrics, and media melt downs are proof, in my mind, that he is doing the right things. MAGA

what does it take to get you to answer a simple question?

do you think this (tweet) is fair criticism: "can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the u.s., the president spent the day playing golf"?

and help us understand how you have insider information on his golf partners - and what they talked about - on the other occasions?

not really.

obama took less time off than the four presidents who preceded him:

Obama Faces Criticisms Despite Taking Less Vacation Days Then Last 4 Presidents
Obama Has Taken The Least Vacation Days Of Any President Since Jimmy Carter
Which U.S. president took the most vacation time?

fun fact! over the course of 2 terms, gw bush took 879 vacation days! that's nearly 2 and a half years out of his 8 years.

Obama was a terrible feckless leader that wasted a lot of time golfing by himself. He deserved the Criticism. Trump is out on the course working out deals with world leaders. Also he owns the golf courses. Trump accomplished and built things in the private sector. Obama never accomplished anything in his non public life. In fact, community organizers try to destroy/ obstruct things. So I'd take away points there. He was raised to believe that those people that create things are evil and only there to diminish the governments power. Obama was Saul alinsky trained iirc or at least I have read that somewhere.

your answer seems muddled as usual.

and you never answered the other question - help us understand how you have insider information on his golf partners and what they talked about?

yep, for a candidate who frequently drew attention to what he saw as security problems with his opponent, it's been a tough week for the president.

in his january 11th news conference, trump said "that’s because we’re run by people that don’t know what they’re doing"

you're one to talk, mr. president.

we're less than a month into this presidency and it's looking pretty shambolic already. what is 4 years of this going to look like?

he campaigned heavily on draining the swamp and he's done the exact opposite. his core supporters don't seem to care that he lies all the time and lies about that but many people who voted for him are now asking whether that decision was a good decision.

his travel ban took another hit today: Trump travel ban hit by new legal setback

what he's doing is one thing, but the way he's doing these things and his aggressive, childish response when things don't go his way is a whole other. we all knew he wasn't very presidential but he's taking it to new levels every day.

he looked primed for action with a republican house and senate but they're mildly freaking out too: As Trump stumbles, Hill Republicans find it harder to defend him

he's going to find it harder and harder to get anything done unless he finds a way to ratchet back the toddler-like behavior and focus himself and his staff.

and finally, and perhaps most importantly, he also campaigned on security and that concept is in absolute tatters as people are questioning his ties - and those of some of his swamp-dwelling cabinet members - to russia. his national security advisor has had to resign in disgrace over lies about inappropriate communication with russia and the whole issue of security seems to have become a surreal joke. "Other surprise developments have also unnerved Republicans, including Trump’s decision to effectively turn his Mar-a-Lago Club terrace into an open-air situation room." (source)

it's a huge mess and it's hard to see it getting any better.

I totally agree with your opinions.
Most people I meet, friends from other countries, family in US etc share the same opinion as yours. I don't think he's going to last 4 years.
If he does a lot of European leaders will start to reply firmly to this childness. When I had worked for a branch of the State Department I had thought Bush was the worst of the worst. Now I realize how wrong I was. What's happening now is as strange and weird as many of the facts in history we can't understand how people let it happen. This offensive and non presidential, bigot, and egoistic way of seeing things will probably change in two years.

Sometimes I it find things hard to believe, attitudes and the way Trump says things that has an international effect. Then I think this is probably me, but no, most people I know has the same feelings towards these weeks filled by nonsense and absurdness of the acts we are watching on a daily basis. This is not something that usually after elections. The feeling is Universal, so to speak.

I think that a lot of rats are trying to sabotage his presidency. The intelligence community should know that the president can declassify certain things that don't pertain to national security ;)

the glen greenwald article is fake news too...

see how that helps nobody?

the trump presidency is a total mess less than a month in.

this greenwald piece is well argued: The Leakers Who Exposed Gen. Flynn’s Lie Committed Serious — and Wholly Justified — Felonies

But no matter. What matters is not the motive of the leaker but the effects of the leak. Any leak that results in the exposure of high-level wrongdoing — as this one did — should be praised, not scorned and punished.

you'll join me in praising these leaks, droppers?

Is the expectation now that Trump won't last an entire term before he is impeached or ahs to resign? The whole time he was running, I didn't believe he was serious and would either sabotage himself or if elected, decline or let his appointees do the work while he played golf. The surprising thing to me was that he has been going through the motions of being serious about it.
